Here’s another fabulous deck project we recently completed in the ol’ 43023.
This new outdoor living space delivers a much needed daily dose of nature, fresh air, and a little forest bathing.
With pastoral views overlooking the woods, and curious deer and other woodland creatures wandering about, it’s a pretty lovely place to slow down, settle in, and enjoy the view.
A little more room to live outside.

My friends…
For this project, our talented masonry team carefully dismantled the historic stone retaining wall, removing each stone one at a time before rebuilding and re-mortaring it by hand. Every effort was made to preserve its original character and timeworn patina while ensuring it will stand strong for generations to come.
Alongside the restoration, they poured new concrete stairs leading to both the street and the front porch, as well as a new sidewalk that gracefully wraps around the home, bringing modern durability to a property rich with history.
Sometimes it isn’t about making something look new, it’s about honoring what has always made it beautiful.
We were extremely happy with the way this turned out.

My friends.
Gather ’round for the thrilling tale of one very tired Craftsman porch that decided it had given just about all it could give.
Our story begins with a visionary homeowner who believed the front of the house deserved to be more than a place to collect packages. He envisioned an entrance that felt welcoming, timeless, and true to the spirit of the home.
Then came the glamorous part…
an archaeological expedition into the old foundation. After uncovering a few decades’ worth of questionable decisions, some random windows, and vintage newspapers, we excavated the failing structure and rebuilt it the proper way, giving this porch a foundation sturdy enough to outlast all of us and future generations or even the aliens who may inhabit the Earth.

With the bones sorted out, we reframed and reinforced the structure from top to bottom so it should happily greet visitors for another couple hundred years.
Next, we laid a delicious bluestone walkway worthy of a grand arrival. The porch itself received tongue-and-groove sassafras flooring, lovingly pre-coated with a natural penetrating oil to let the wood do what sassafras does best…
look outrageously handsome.

i then disappeared into my design studio and custom fabricated the tapered columns and handrails, each built specifically for this home and its proportions.
We also used this time of mess-making to go ahead and replace the roofing shingles on the entire house + garage.
Finally, we crowned the whole affair with solid copper gutters and downspouts because, much like a good pair of leather boots, copper only gets better with age.
These old homes have stories to tell. We just consider it an honor to help write the next chapter.

My friends.
Here she is…the moment you’ve been waiting for.
This handsome devil is a bespoke loft ladder that I recently fabricated from solid, locally sourced black walnut for one of our clients here in Granville.
Every joint is built using traditional mortises, and reinforced with solid walnut dowels. For the handrails, i incorporated copper standoffs to add a subtle contrast and a bit of warmth against the walnut.
When it’s not serving as a ladder, it doubles as a display shelving system, making it just as functional as it is sculptural.
From the beginning, the goal was to create something that felt like it had always belonged in the home. We took cues from the existing architecture, particularly the beautifully hand-hewn beams left exposed in the bedrooms. The rich black walnut echoes those timeworn timbers, while the black steel pipe hardware lends a quiet modern farmhouse character without competing with the craftsmanship.
Pieces like this are why we love what we do. They’re equal parts furniture, architecture, and utility. Built to be used every day and also appreciated for generations as an heirloom piece.

Another bespoke door fabricated and installed for this home office in south Granville.
Crafted from locally sourced solid cherry and custom stained to blend seamlessly with the home’s existing trim.
This transformation required removing the original columns and carefully patching both the hardwood flooring and tile.
The best compliment a project like this can receive? It looks as though it has always been part of the home.

Never a dull moment on the job site.
We were called in to deal with a long-forgotten underground cistern that had become a structural liability. If left alone, it could eventually collapse and create a sinkhole.
Before we sent two concrete trucks worth of material into its final resting place, the homeowner couldn’t resist climbing down for one last look inside.

My friends,
We’re excited to share this beautiful deck and pergola project we recently completed in Granville.
As part of the transformation, we replaced an existing set of windows with a handsome new set of French doors, creating a seamless connection between the home and outdoor living space. We also crafted custom lattice panels designed to support climbing hydrangeas, which will eventually weave their way across the pergola and add even more character to the garden.
What was once an underutilized backyard is now an inviting extension of the home. A place for gathering, relaxing, and enjoying the outdoors. We’re especially pleased with how this project enhanced both the beauty and functionality of the space.
