As far as re-seeding bare spots on your lawn: cultivate the spots you intend to seed so your new seed can easily send roots down into the soil. Putting a new layer of soil is recommended. Apply a proper amount of new seed. Not too much, but not too little. Put a layer of topper or new soil to cover the seed to protect and keep the seed in place. Water twice a day until germination takes place. If you have a timer set to water 5 minutes at a time. If you’re watering by hand spray lightly. Too much water can float the seed which means the water will move the seed from its intended spot. You also can’t let the seed and soil dry out. Keep moist but not too saturated. Tip: if you’ve used a pre-emergent fertilizer or w**d and feed in the recent past, sometimes this will keep the seed from germinating.
