Weather is finally cooling down in Texas. Who else is thanking God for that?

Now's the time to get exterior projects done before the holidays hit.

Fence- if it took a hit from the storms this fall now is the time.
Roof- get it inspected before winter rolls in.
Paint- easier to work with in cooler temps.
Driveway- cracks only get worse when the ground shifts in winter.
Gutters- one more round of leaves before the year is out.

Storm season is here. Here's what every DFW homeowner should know about their roof.

1. Age matters. If your roof is over 15 years old it needs to be looked at. Most roofs in Texas don't make it past 20 with the heat and hail we get.

2. Hail damage isn't always obvious from the ground. Soft spots, cracked shingles, and damaged flashing don't always show from the street.

3. Gutters and roof go together. If your gutters are pulling away or clogged your roof is taking on water it shouldn't be.

4. One bad storm can take years off a roof. Get it inspected after every major storm not just when something leaks.

5. A leak inside means it's already been bad outside for a while. By the time water shows up on your ceiling the damage is bigger than it looks.

Here's what to avoid when hiring a plumber for a bathroom renovation.

Moving drain lines and setting new plumbing for a shower has to be done to code. Not everyone can do that legally.

Someone who skips the waterproofing. This is the number one reason tile showers fail. If it's not waterproofed right behind the tile you'll have mold and water damage inside your walls before you know it.

A guy who rushes the tile. Clean cuts, level lines, proper spacing. If they can't show you past work, walk away.
