Here is the latest I have come up with.....

Did you know your network is like a cities infrastructure?

Firewall, Email filter, and edge security = Sea Walls and Levees
Network Segmentation = Zoning
Identity and Access = Power Grid
Monitoring and Logging = Drainage Systems
Threat Intelligence = Weather Radar
Security Baselines = Building Codes
Incident Response = Emergency Services

Some other areas of concern that matter......

Critical Systems = Hospitals and Generators
Crisis Communication = Emergency Broadcast
Recovery and Lessons Learned = Rebuilding
Attacker Dwell Time = The Eye of the Storm

You are probably asking yourself why I am making this analogy. Let me ask you this, How many of these infrastructure needs do cities go without. I would venture and say none of them. Cities implement each of these safety structures to protect the residents when the storm hits.

So why do businesses skip on certain network infrastructures that would keep their data and employees safe from attackers. The more prepared and tested your defenses are, the more likely you are to weather the attack no matter the size. Each layer provides more time to make the adjustments needed to stop the attack before it gets unstoppable, causing irreversible damage to your business data and reputation.
