Technical Tree Service was out in Manchester, NH removing hazard trees.

A hazard tree doesn’t always look dramatic from the ground. Cracks, dead sections, compromised branch unions, root movement, storm damage, or a heavy lean toward a house, driveway, or other high-use area can all change how the tree needs to be handled.

This week, our crew worked on removing trees that posed a risk to the surrounding property in Manchester.

Every removal starts with the same questions: what can the tree reach, how stable is it, what access is available, and what removal method gives the crew the best control.

A tree near a driveway or walkway isn’t automatically a problem. What matters is the condition of the tree, what is underneath it, and how people use that space.

In Auburn, NH, a tree risk assessment may look at roots lifting pavement, branches over parked vehicles, cracks at branch unions, deadwood above walkways, recent changes in lean, and construction planned near the root zone.

Distance alone doesn’t tell you whether a tree is safe.
A healthy tree can grow close to a driveway for years. Another tree farther away may have a cracked limb positioned directly over the area where cars are parked.

Roots deserve the same attention. Cutting a large root just because it has lifted asphalt can affect tree stability, so driveway or walkway repairs should be planned with the tree in mind.

Our latest article explains how arborists assess trees near driveways and walkways in Auburn, NH, including root conflicts, clearance pruning, sightlines, storm damage, pavement lifting, and when removal may actually be necessary.

SAFETY, TRAINING & TEAMWORK, THAT’S HOW WE DO IT.

We’re proud to share that four Technical Tree Service climbers are now Crane Climber Certified!

Last week, our team completed an intensive two-day crane climbing workshop with the New Jersey Crane Experts and their outstanding instructors.

When it comes to crane-assisted tree removal in Southern New Hampshire and Northern Massachusetts, experience matters, but so does ongoing training. Every complex removal requires precise planning, clear communication, and a crew that knows how to work together.

Our grounds crew and certified crane operators also took part in the full workshop. From the climber working in the tree to the operator in the crane cab and the crew on the ground, everyone plays a critical role in keeping the job safe and running smoothly.

A big thank-you to the instructors and everyone who took part in this training. We’re always looking for ways to strengthen our skills and raise the standard of safety on every job.

4 newly certified crane climbers. Certified crane operators. One team committed to safety.

🌳 Older trees can stay healthy for decades when their condition is monitored and unnecessary stress is avoided.

For homeowners in Weare, NH, preventive tree care often starts with noticing what has changed.

More deadwood in the crown, smaller leaves, new cracks, fungal growth, disturbed soil around the roots, or a recent lean can all justify a closer look. Construction near the tree matters too.

Heavy equipment, trenching, grade changes, and soil compaction can affect mature roots long after the work is finished.

Pruning should have a reason behind it. Removing deadwood over a driveway is different from reducing an overextended live branch. Mature trees also depend on their existing canopy, so removing large amounts of healthy growth can create additional stress.

Root-zone care deserves the same attention. Mulch, soil moisture, drainage, and protection from equipment traffic can influence how an older tree responds over time.

Our latest article explains preventive tree care for older trees in Weare, NH, including pruning, root protection, soil care, storm checks, construction impacts, and signs that deserve an arborist’s attention.

Busy week at Technical Tree Service 🌳

Our crews have been out handling tree removals, hauling logs, and pruning trees across Southern New Hampshire.

Some jobs call for a full removal. Others need selective pruning to clear branches, improve structure, or deal with damaged growth. Once the cutting is done, logs and debris still have to be moved safely and the property cleaned up.

That mix of work keeps our week moving: tree removal, tree pruning, log hauling, and cleanup from one property to the next.

A tree can still be standing after a storm and have damage you can’t see from the driveway.

Broken branches are easy to spot. Root movement, cracked unions, hanging wood, and damage high in the canopy can be much less obvious.

After strong wind, wet snow, ice, or saturated soil, start by looking at the tree from a safe distance.

Fresh soil lifting around the base, a new lean, trunk cracks, torn branches, or limbs caught in the crown are all worth paying attention to. If power lines are involved, stay away from the area and contact the utility.

A green canopy doesn’t automatically mean the tree is structurally sound either. Some trees leaf out normally even after root movement or internal damage.

And storm damage doesn’t always mean removal. If the roots and main structure remain stable, pruning and monitoring may be enough. In other cases, severe root-plate movement or major trunk splitting can make removal more likely.

Our latest article explains how arborists assess storm-damaged trees in Concord, NH, what homeowners can safely look for, and which signs deserve faster attention.

If a tree changed after a storm, an on-site assessment can help determine whether it needs pruning, monitoring, support, or removal.

How far should tree branches be from your roof?

There isn’t one clearance distance that works for every tree.

A branch touching shingles is a different problem from one that sits several feet above the roof but moves heavily in wind. Deadwood over the house calls for a different approach than healthy growth extending toward the structure.

That’s why clearance pruning starts with the objective.

An arborist looks at where the branch begins, which laterals can support a proper reduction cut, how the tree is likely to regrow, and how much live canopy can be removed without creating a new problem.

Sometimes the best plan is a small number of targeted cuts rather than thinning the entire tree.

Roof shape, gutters, electrical service, access, rigging, and nearby landscaping can also affect how the work is planned.

Our latest article explains how arborists plan clearance pruning near roofs in Hudson, NH and why the finished objective matters more than simply cutting everything back from the house.
