Happy Makeover Monday!
I LOVE coming up with design solutions that provide all answers a client needs. In this case my client asked for ideas on how to make their kitchen more productive but keep the layout basically the same. They had a good base of black and white cabinetry and countertops. A designated coffee station was asked for, as well as an island that could provide more storage. So I went to work.
Using the range hood in black gave me the opportunity to incorporate black cabinetry for a new island and coffee station area. Because the existing countertops were dark I found a great looking granite that combined dark and light in a suitable pattern. The L pattern of the island gave much more storage and allowed for seating. The coffee bar I designed allowed for a mini fridge, a prep sink, and glass front cabinets. Now my clients have a great updated kitchen with an island that works the way the family needs!!!!

Furniture does not need to 'live' up against a wall. You can create flow by moving furniture away from the wall and actually make the room appear larger.

This week’s makeover!
I wish sometimes houses could talk. I have said this many times! The builder and plumber who built this house had a reason for locating a plumbing pipe into the master bath floor. When I designed the new vanity for the master bath renovation on paper everything was great. But when demolition started we discovered the pipe curving into the master bath floor, and my vanity - already ordered - would not work.
So a pivot was required to accommodate the plumbing pipe so my vanity would be successful. I had to add in extra fill pieces at the wall to give my vanity more space. We went from 2” fill pieces to 4” fill pieces. A simple design solution that allowed my contractors to keep the plumbing pipe in its place and my vanity its place. A decision I often have to do all of the time during a renovation. The decision is something my clients will never understand - but they trust me to have solutions during a renovation that work. The end result is what matters for them.

This week’s makeover!
My clients had hired me to assist them with designing an in-law suite on the ground floor that was ADA compliant but kept the Victorian character that was in the home. Their existing bathroom was period correct and functioned well for the family but if we needed ADA compliance we needed upgrades. So we started planning!
The tub was a hazard for falling so a walk-in shower was a solution with grab bars and a ADA compliant seat and low curb. When we opened up the tub area we needed to upgrade the plumbing pipes so the shower had to accommodate a ‘bump out’ on the shower wall. I found a new vanity that was period correct but slimmer with MORE storage. I upgraded all of the lighting so strong light was a priority. I removed a door to a hallway to allow for a more private bathroom. I was able to save the flooring which was period correct and went with our new and existing scheme. Now my clients have an in-law suite that will function ADA compliant but blends in with the current character of the home.

It’s a sad day here. The very last nite of 100.7 The Bay in Baltimore. So many personalities and radio opportunities over my 18 years advertising with WZBA. Friendships that made me believe in local radio. Advertising that brought me so many new clients! I became part of a family. Who let me judge their Halloween costume competition. Who let me be a celebrity judge at the inaugural Crabcake Festival. Who hired me to help renovate the on air studios!! Who let me voice my own spots. The Bay kept everyone in the listening area up to date on local events and happenings. And festivals and fun. That will go away at midnight to be replaced with a multi- national Christian station. Local is now dead. I will really miss all of the laughter and silly comments and the joy of listening and being in the offices. Baltimore has lost a good one. RIP 100.7 WZBA…🥲

It is SO much fun to be able to long distance teach someone how to mount a tv and bracket. She has all of the tools - and equipment - just needs some expertise to get walked through the steps. SO PROUD of this kid!!!
