Lance Meyers Decorative Painting Art didn’t start as a gift, it started as a place to stand while everything else was shifting. What people call art was first survival.

And somewhere along the way what kept because what has defined me. From home remodeling - faux painter -visual artist In 1987, I started Specialty Painting, Inc., which I later sold in 2007. I am currently based out of Tulsa, OK as Lance Meyers Decorative Painting. The world of decorative painting is limitless. WITHOUT A SHEPHERD — see it in person this week.

This is the first 24x36 reproduction from the original painting. I’m extremely pleased with the clarity of the print.
But there were two things the printing process simply could not reproduce the way I wanted them. The wolf lost some of his presence in the transfer, so I went back in and re-embellished him by hand. The original also contains metallic gold that did not fully translate, so I reapplied the metallic gold by hand as well.
I’ve decided I will do the same with every print in this edition. Each of the 25 reproductions will be individually hand-embellished, finished with metallic gold, numbered, and hand-signed by me. So while they begin as reproductions, no two will be absolutely identical.

MADE PERFECT IN WEAKNESS

We spend so much of life trying to hide the places where we have been broken.

But what if the broken places are not what diminish us—what if they become part of what makes us beautiful?

N The Japanese art of kintsugi repairs broken pottery with gold, not hiding the cracks, but honoring them as part of the story.

That is the thought behind this piece.

God doesn’t always erase the evidence of what we’ve been through. Sometimes He fills the broken places with grace.

“My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”
— 2 Corinthians 12:9

WITHOUT A SHEPHERD

While working on my painting of the shepherd defending his flock, I decided to paint a second version.

The exact same scene—only I removed the shepherd.

The difference was striking.

There is still light in the picture. That matters.

The sheep have not been left without the grace of God, for “the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men.” — Titus 2:11

The sheep are still there.
The light is still there.
But so is the wolf.

And now there is no God-called shepherd standing between the flock and what would devour them.

Jesus looked upon the multitudes and saw this very condition:

“They fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.”
— Matthew 9:36

God’s light does not eliminate the need for a shepherd. Grace does not make spiritual leadership unnecessary. And the presence of light does not mean there are no wolves.

Paul asked, “And how shall they hear without a preacher?” — Romans 10:14.

And Paul warned those entrusted with the flock:

“Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock… For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.”
— Acts 20:28–29

That is what this painting became about.

Remove the shepherd, and everything else can remain—the sheep, the light, even the grace of God—but something vital is gone. There is no one standing between the sheep and the wolf.

There is enough light to see the sheep.

There is enough light to see the wolf.

But there is no shepherd between them.

EVERY FLOCK NEEDS A SHEPHERD.
