I posted a picture of this pretty lil lady last night in my story and I was curious as to what it is, so here's what I learned!

This is called a wishbone flower (Torenia fournieri). It features a small, trumpet-shaped purple flower with a white and yellow center. The bright green leaves are oval with small, jagged edges. It grows as a low, bushy annual plant, and best in partial shade, especially with morning sun and afternoon shade. Keep the soil evenly moist, but do not let it sit in standing water. It blooms from late spring straight through the fall heat.

If you see any of these babes and want to bring them inside (bc that's what my first thought was), because it is already late August, the mature plant is highly vulnerable to transplant shock. Moving its entire root system from the ground into a pot will likely kill it within a few weeks. Instead, the easiest and most successful way to keep it as an indoor houseplant is to grow a new plant from a cutting. Wishbone flowers root incredibly fast in water, creating a fresh, healthy clone that adapts perfectly to indoor potting soil.

Happy planting! 🌱
