Here is a checklist to help you prepare for cold weather, save on energy costs, and prevent damage:

🏠 Exterior & Structure

Roof & Gutters

✅ Inspect roof for damaged or missing shingles; repair as needed.

✅ Clean gutters and downspouts to prevent ice dams.

✅ Ensure downspouts direct water at least 3–4 feet away from the foundation.

✅ Check flashing around chimneys and vents for leaks.

Foundation & Exterior Walls

✅ Seal cracks in foundation, siding, and around windows/doors.

✅ Inspect caulking and weather stripping; replace if brittle or missing.

✅ Cover or close foundation vents if you live in a cold climate.

Windows & Doors

✅ Check for drafts; use weather stripping or draft stoppers.

✅ Add storm windows or plastic film insulation kits.

✅ Close curtains at night to retain heat and open them during the day for sunlight.
