Another award for this great project! The Ketchum Fire Station received one of the highest recognitions in the “Firehouse” Station Design Awards, standing with advanced new fire stations from across the US. We are thrilled with the national recognition of this prestigious design award. “Firehouse” shared with us that this year had some of the toughest judges, but Ketchum was clearly their Silver choice.

Congratulations to the design team and all that made this station an amazing and beautiful asset for the Ketchum community!

COLE Architects is pleased to welcome Technical Designer Khalid Mohamedelhassan to our Gilbert office! Receiving a Master’s in Architecture degree from the University of Arizona, a Master of Business Administration degree specializing in Project Management from DeVry University in Texas, and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture degree from the University of Khartoum in Sudan, Khalid brings over 20 years of diverse knowledge and experience to our team.

His involvement in the architectural industry also included serving as a teaching assistant for the College of Architecture at U of A as well as in Sudan. It’s through these collaborative environments that Khalid finds passion for his career: “I have always enjoyed being part of a team and have worked on many large projects, where I eventually discovered that the more one shares with others, the more one gains in knowledge.”

Renderings of the future Our Lady of Mount Carmel Adoration Chapel in Tempe, courtesy of Senior Designer Damian McGrew. Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish always intended to have an adoration chapel on site with the existing main sanctuary. This 34-seat chapel will be placed inside the existing church building, across the school building and centralized on campus.

The COLE Architects Gilbert office is pleased to welcome Student Intern Darien Strickler! After his summer internship at COLE, Darien is staying on while completing his architecture studies. He has already received his bachelor’s degree in Architecture and a certificate in sustainability, and he is currently working on his Architecture Master’s at Cornell University.

Darien is very passionate about his career: “Architecture as a profession not only allows those who practice it to know what is possible because it has been done, but also to challenge what is possible because it has not.”

Arizona College Preparatory received this year’s Non-Residential Citation Award at the 31st Annual Excellence in Masonry Architectural Awards Banquet hosted by the Arizona Masonry Council. Principal David Marr accepted the award on our firm’s behalf alongside team members from CORE and Meyer Borgman Johnson. Arizona College Preparatory High School was designed to accommodate a growing student population and provide students with an alternative to larger high schools in the area.

The school features two main buildings that house the administration, classrooms, library, main gym, aux gym, kitchen/café, and auditorium. In addition, there are two concessions buildings that serve the football/track stadium and all the other athletic fields on campus. The football stadium includes large home and visitor grandstands, a press box and sports field lighting here.
