Weep holes might look small, but they lead directly into your walls, and that makes them a perfect entry point for pests. Insects can easily slip through these ventilation openings and start nesting where you’ll never see them.

That’s why we use an angled duster to treat every single opening during the initial service. The dust goes deep inside the wall voids, where it stays protected from sun, rain, and wind. Because it’s not exposed to the elements, it can remain effective for months at a time, working longer than most exterior treatments.

The goal isn’t just to kill pests, it’s to push them out. When they come into contact with the dust, it disrupts them and forces them out of the walls and into treated areas where they can’t survive. It’s a small step that makes a big difference in keeping pests from settling inside your home.

So, these are bark scorpions, and they’re the species we most commonly find living alongside people in Arizona. They’re also considered one of the more medically significant scorpions in the desert, which is why they tend to get attention when they show up around homes.

We’ve been seeing them closer and closer to residential areas over time, and a big part of that comes down to food sources. When an environment supports high populations of crickets, roaches, and other low level insects, it unintentionally creates a steady food supply for bark scorpions. Crickets alone can make up a large portion of their diet, so wherever those insects thrive, scorpions tend to follow.

That’s why we focus on building a 360 degree protection zone around the home. The goal isn’t just to treat what you see, it’s to reduce both the predator and the food source pressure that’s pulling them in. When that perimeter is properly established, it creates a less favorable environment for scorpions to establish themselves near or inside the home.

Right now in early spring, we’re seeing scorpion activity kick off fast as temperatures start shifting. This is the time of year when hidden populations start becoming active again, and what’s been sitting outside your home all winter begins moving toward structure walls, garages, and entry points.

One pregnant scorpion can lead to roughly 25 to 40 additional scorpions over the season, depending on conditions and survival rates. That’s where things start scaling quickly without people realizing it. It’s not just one pest you’re dealing with, it’s the next generation spreading across the property and finding new places to hide and hunt.

That’s why we focus on building a 360 degree layer of protection around the home before peak summer hits. The goal is to reduce that pressure outside so they don’t make your home part of their cycle. If you’re in the Gilbert area and starting to notice activity, this is the window where prevention actually makes the biggest difference before it turns into a full summer issue.
