We are a week away from our Open Garden date. The tricky thing about writing these posts is to share something that will pique your interest to come, without unduly raising your expectations.
In May, I was offering trees for sale at a Bonsai club show. The weather was cool, and I saw a guy that something under the cover of his jacket. I looked a little closer and got a glimpse of his treasure. I said, oh you have a little peanut! Not a term I have ever used before. I think that I picked it up from my daughter when she sees a tiny baby. I looked over and saw Mom smiling proudly. We started chatting. They were just thinking about dipping their toes into the world of Bonsai. They both worked in the horticulture field and clearly loved trees and gardening. She did landscape and garden design. I said that I am a gardener, but I don’t do any design, except in my own garden. We talked about her intent, approach and goal when taking on a project. How reclaiming an old garden was as rewarding as creating a new one. I told her that I felt like I was talking to myself. I asked them to mark their calendar and invited them to come a see my garden. I said, ‘you won’t be disappointed’! As soon as the words came out of my mouth, I wanted to go into edit mode. It felt quite braggadocious, which I not my style. Too late! I do hope that they come and you as well. We will be here. Come and find us we might be lost in the garden.
