It's that time of year again. Frozen pipe time. Here are a few pointers that can help to prevent your pipes from freezing.
(1) Make sure all hoses are disconnected from outdoor hose bibs, water is shut off to hose bibs, and faucets have been drained.
(2) Keep garage doors closed, and interior doors opened.
(3) If you have plumbing running along an exterior wall, open cabinets where possible to allow heat to get to pipes (remember to remove anything that kids and pets shouldn't have access to).
(4) Let the cold water drip from a faucet served by the exposed pipes to keep the water moving.
(5) Set your thermostat to at least 55 degrees when you are not home.
(6) Insulate problem pipes, and seal up cracks and holes.
It's always a good idea to know where your shut off valve is located in your home, and to know how to shut it off, in case of emergency. If you do find yourself with a frozen pipe, give us a call at (262) 251-4151. We're happy to help.🥶

Spring Hose Bibb Season

With the weather warming up this weekend, many of you may be using your hose bibbs for the first time this year. The following steps will help to ensure your basement is dry, and your hose bibb is working properly.

#1- Turn the outside hose bibb off.

#2- Locate the shut off valve inside the house (usually in the basement or a crawl space), and turn the shut off valve on. Check for any water leaks.

If you have two people available, have one person perform step three and the other person in the basement for step 4.

#3- Turn the outside hose bibb on.

#4- Check the pipes in the basement to make sure nothing is leaking.

#5- Check that the outside hose bibb water is flowing properly.

#6- Turn hose bibb, off, connect garden hose, turn hose bibb back on, check that hose has no leaks, and use as usually.

Hopefully the warm weather is here to stay. If cooler temps return, and it gets below freezing, remember to disconnect the garden hose and re-winterize your hose bibbs.
