It’s been a really dry start to the year across central and eastern Kentucky… 9th driest for Lexington!

Historically speaking, we’re off to some of the driest starts to the year on record. We NEED rain!

The good news is that an extended stretch of unsettled weather is finally setting up across the region, bringing multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms through late week and into the holiday weekend. While not everyone will see rain at all times, many areas could pick up a beneficial 1 to 3 inches over the next seven days.

That rainfall would go a long way toward easing ongoing drought conditions and helping improve soil moisture heading into summer.

Fall 2025 ➡️ Spring 2026 ☀️

This lawn received a full fall overseed renovation last season and the payoff is showing this spring. Thicker turf, improved color, and a much cleaner overall appearance after working through some w**d pressure this spring.

There’s still a little work ahead, but the progress from the before and after speaks for itself. Fall overseeding can make a huge difference on cool season lawns here in Kentucky when paired with proper treatments and weather timed applications.

Recent rains helped, but they barely made a dent in the bigger picture.

Moderate to severe drought conditions remain in place, with severe to extreme drought continuing to expand across southern and western Kentucky.

The good news is we do have more rain chances ahead. The bad news is this is still an uphill climb, especially as we head into the warmer months.

We’re knocking back clover, dandelions, and early season w**ds while feeding the lawn the right way to keep that rich green color coming in.

Spring is all about building the foundation. Skip this part and you’re playing catch-up all year. ☀️

Another spring overseed in the books. Looking forward to the changes over the next few weeks as this lawn starts to fill in and come back to life.

The goal here was simple: build density and thicken things up heading into the growing season.

Now we water and let it work.
