🍂 The Great Fall Garden Debate: To Clean Up or Not to Clean Up?
When it comes to Fall gardens, there are two schools of thought...
🍁 Team Leave It: Leave perennials, grasses, and plant debris standing through winter to provide wildlife habitat, food for birds, and shelter for beneficial insects.
✂️ Team Fall Cleanup: Clear away leaves and decaying plant material, cut back spent perennials where appropriate, and prepare garden beds for Winter. This can help reduce overwintering pests and disease while setting the stage for Spring.
So, where do we stand? We tend to lean toward Fall cleanup! We believe there’s real value in being proactive about garden health and preparing our beds for the season ahead.
That said, every garden and every client is different! We tailor our Fall cleanups to each client's preferences, finding the right balance between tidiness, plant health, and supporting wildlife.
