A fresh look without changing the kitchen layout! ✨

We’re seeing more and more kitchens with the bi-level countertop, a style that was especially popular in the ’90s. While it once added a distinct separation between the kitchen and adjoining space, today that raised level can feel like lost countertop space and a visual barrier.

For this kitchen makeover, we removed the bi-level countertop and replaced it with a single-level, continuous countertop, creating a more open feel while adding more usable workspace and a larger, more functional surface for gathering and seating.

Of course, this kitchen received a complete makeover with new cabinets and flooring, too but we wanted to highlight just how much of a difference changing the countertop configuration can make.

If you have one of those ’90s bi-level countertops, you may not need to completely change your kitchen layout to make the space feel more open and functional.

Sometimes, a simple countertop change can completely transform the way your kitchen feels. ❤️

🍁 Fall is here, but we're not quite ready to say goodbye to deck season!

There are still plenty of beautiful days left to enjoy your outdoor space. And if you're looking at your deck thinking, “Yeah...this probably needs some work,” you're not alone.

Whether you're looking at replacing a few boards, resurfacing your existing deck, or starting from scratch with a whole new deck, we can help.

We offer both wood and Wolf composite decking, so there are options for different styles, maintenance needs and budgets.

If you're considering composite, Wolf decking offers the look of wood without the same level of upkeep. Their decking is designed to resist moisture, mold and mildew, and different collections offer a variety of colors and wood-look styles.

And here's a little planning tip: if a new deck is on your spring wish list, fall and winter are a great time to start talking about it.

We can talk through what you have now, what you'd like to change, and which decking option makes sense for your home.

Because spring has a funny way of showing up before we're ready for it.

Thinking Ahead in Every Shower We Install

When we remodel a shower, we don't just think about what you need today. We think about what you might need years from now.

That's why we're making a change to how we build our showers. Instead of adding backing only when a shower is going to have grab bars, we're now adding proper backing behind the walls of every shower we install. This way, if a homeowner ever needs grab bars or other accessibility features in the future, the shower is already prepared for them.

You may not need a grab bar today. But life changes, and your home should be able to change with you.

It's a small step during a remodel that can make a big difference down the road.

At Durian Builders, we're always looking for ways to build with the future in mind. ❤️

Thinking about remodeling your kitchen?

There are SO many decisions that go into a kitchen remodel, and sometimes the little things you don’t think about until later are the things that make the biggest difference.

We put together a list of some of the kitchen decisions we think are worth giving a little extra thought to, from choosing your cabinet finishes and backsplash to planning storage, lighting, outlets and the right sized island.

And don’t worry, we aren’t here to tell you what you should like! We love farmhouse kitchens, big islands and all kinds of different design styles. It’s about making sure the choices you love also work for your space and the way you live in it.

After all, your kitchen should look beautiful but it also needs to WORK beautifully.

Check out our latest blog for some things to think about before starting your next kitchen remodel!
