Overland Contracting Inc., (OCI) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Black & Veatch (B&V) that provides construction services in the open/merit shop arena. OCI is tailored to fit our clients’ project-specific needs, options are available through direct hire or subcontract strategies utilizing open shop labor in support of EPC projects as well as construction-only work for the telecom, energy, and water markets across the country. As we recognize Construction Su***de Prevention Week, Black and Veatch is reaffirming our commitment to creating a workplace where people feel supported, respected and connected.

Darrell Luney has spent nearly 16 years building his career with us, and for him, it all comes back to the people and the work. From telecom projects early in his career to leading as a site manager on a solar substation today, Darrell has seen firsthand what it means to grow in the skilled trades at OCI: hands-on experience, strong teams, and opportunities to take on new challenges.

Our team had a great time welcoming families to the construction equipment booth during the recent Black & Veatch Take A Child to Work Day. Kids got up close with the equipment and learned how heavy machinery is operated safely. A great reminder that building a strong safety culture starts early as we close out Construction Safety Week!

Stop. Think. Plan. Act. It’s , and our teams live by "Zero Injuries Today" everyday. We teach preparation, situational awareness and looking out for one another so everyone goes home safe.

Recently, several of our leaders visited our crews to highlight strong safety performance, formally recognizing two team members:
🔹Chance Bailey – Recently promoted to foreman, Chance developed a detailed plan for electrical work that minimized disruption while taking the safest approach possible. His preparation and leadership set a strong example.
🔹Bruce Bairfield– A civil superintendent who consistently goes above and beyond to keep his crew and others safe. Bruce’s proactive mindset and commitment to safety make a real difference every day.

While we singled out these two exemplary professionals, working safe is everybody's job. Our safety culture is built through trust, accountability and teams that have each other’s backs, one day at a time.
