Worth doing yourself. Swapping a showerhead, replacing a toilet flapper, clearing a slow drain with a hand auger, insulating exposed pipe before winter.

Worth calling a licensed plumber. Anything soldered, anything gas, anything behind a wall, water heater work, and any repair where the shutoff will not hold.

The dividing line is not difficulty. It is what happens when it goes wrong. A flapper leaks. A water heater connection floods a house.

If you are not sure which side of that line you are on, ask before you start. We would rather answer a question than fix the result.

Happy Sunday from the Mountain Time Plumbing team.

Hope today gets you a slow morning and a long hot shower.

We are back on the schedule Monday.

Know where your main shutoff is before you need it.

If a supply line lets go, the water does not stop until somebody turns it off. Most Treasure Valley homes have the main in one of three places. The garage, a basement utility area, or a crawlspace near where the line enters the house.

Go find yours this weekend. Work the valve a quarter turn to make sure it is not seized. Then tell everyone else in the house where it is.

Two minutes now saves a floor later.

We run by appointment, Monday through Friday. If you want your main shutoff checked or replaced, message us and we will get you on the calendar.

This is what mineral buildup does to a pipe.

It does not happen overnight. It happens quietly, over years, while the water still runs fine. Then the pressure drops, or the water heater gives out early, and it is not a repair anymore.

Softened water prevents the buildup instead of cleaning it up. That is the difference between maintaining a system and replacing one.

Free water test. We will tell you honestly whether you need anything at all.

A question we get most weeks. Do I need a softener, a filter, or both?

They do different jobs.

A softener handles minerals. It is what stops scale from coating your water heater, your fixtures, and the inside of your pipes.

A reverse osmosis unit handles what you taste. It goes in at the kitchen sink and cleans up flavor and contaminants in the water you actually drink and cook with.

Treasure Valley water is hard enough that most homes want both. The softener protects the house. The RO protects the glass in your hand.

Free water test if you want to know exactly what you are working with.

Whole house water system. $2,999 installed.

Novo whole home softener plus a HALO Ultra Plus reverse osmosis unit for your drinking water. Licensed install, usually done in about five hours.

Priced separately, those two run $5,032.50. Together, through September 30, they are $2,999.

Free water test for Treasure Valley homeowners. Send us a message.

Homeowner tip of the day: Never reuse old washing machine hoses when replacing or moving your washer.

Over time, old rubber lines become brittle and worn-out gaskets struggle to create a proper seal. Even braided lines will eventually degrade. Swapping in a fresh pair of supply lines every time you move or upgrade your washer is one of the easiest, cheapest ways to prevent catastrophic water leaks and major floor damage.

When was the last time you checked your washing machine connections? Drop a comment below or reach out to Mountain Time Plumbing if you need an expert eye on your home's setup.

Quick note on how we work.

Estimates are free, on everything. No diagnostic fee to come out, look at it, and give you a real number. We are local, licensed and insured, and we run same-day service when the schedule allows, Mon-Fri 8-5.

Have a plumbing question? DM us even if you are nowhere near ready to book. We would rather answer it now than after it turns into a repair. (208) 993-0717.

Did you know a hidden leak almost always shows up before you ever see water?

Watch for a water bill that jumped with no change in habits, a warm spot on the floor, a musty smell in one room, or the sound of running water when everything is off.

Quick test: shut off every fixture, then look at your water meter. If it is still moving, something is leaking.

Seeing any of these? DM us or call (208) 993-0717. Mon-Fri 8-5.

Thinking about tankless? Here is the straight version.

Upside: no tank sitting there waiting to leak, endless hot water, smaller footprint, longer service life.

Things to weigh: higher upfront cost, you may need gas line or venting changes, and in hard water it needs periodic descaling to keep the warranty intact.

The right answer depends on your house and how your family uses hot water. DM us and we will walk you through both options. Estimates are free.
