A new window will not fix a bad opening.

Before the window or door goes in, the opening needs to be square, supported, flashed, sealed, and ready for the exterior trim.

On this project, three window openings and the front door were reframed with new headers before the new units were installed.

You can hide a lot with new siding.
You cannot hide a roof edge that does not line up.

Fascia, soffit, overhang depth, and trim lines are some of the first details that expose a poorly planned addition. On this project, we’re replacing those components across the main house so the old and new sections use the same finished detail.

Trying to match old brick with new work can make an addition look more obvious, not less.

A deliberate siding accent gives the new construction a clean break from the existing masonry. But the trim, windows, roofline, soffit, and fascia still have to line up with the house.

That is what keeps contrast from looking accidental.

This is the detail that separates this pergola from a basic framed structure.

Mortise and tenon joinery means the posts, beams, and braces are cut to fit together instead of relying on exposed hardware to do all the work visually.

On a project like this, the frame stays exposed. So the joints matter.

This pergola was not built in an empty yard.

The concrete walls and patio layout were already there. That means the post placement had to be right before anything else went up.

Once the 8x8 Douglas Fir posts are anchored, the beams, rafters, braces, roof decking, and standing seam roof all follow that layout.

Good materials do not fix bad placement.
