A STATEMENT FROM DAVIS ROOFING GROUP
Over the past 24 hours, our family, our employees, and our business have been subjected to an extraordinary amount of harassment following the circulation of an edited video involving an encounter at the Galt Post Office.
Because portions of that video are now being shared throughout our community, we believe our customers deserve to hear directly from us.
My husband and I went to the Galt Post Office to mail a certified letter. While there, we encountered two masked individuals filming members of the public. What followed was a much longer and significantly different interaction than what is portrayed in the edited video now circulating online.
During that encounter, I was subjected to repeated degrading and sexually demeaning comments about my body, appearance, makeup, intelligence, and worth as a woman. I was called vile names and told, among other things, that my only value was to go home and make my husband a sandwich.
More seriously, while I was attempting to leave through the enclosed walkway of the post office, one of the masked individuals grabbed my wrist. I immediately turned around and told him not to touch me. A camera was then placed within inches of my face, and I moved it away from me.
The video being circulated does not show the entire encounter or much of what occurred before our reactions.
We are not claiming that we reacted perfectly. We were angry. We told these individuals to leave us alone, and words were exchanged. We will not pretend otherwise.
But what has happened since this video began circulating has gone far beyond criticism of our reaction.
Davis Roofing Group has been inundated with harassing telephone calls, interfering with our employees' ability to answer legitimate customers and operate our business. Our employees have been cursed at and verbally abused. We have received threats, including death threats. Negative reviews have begun appearing from individuals whom we do not recognize as customers.
Our company's identifying information has also been circulated, and we have received telephone calls offering to have videos removed in exchange for money.
All of this is being documented and preserved.
Law enforcement has been contacted and is involved. We are preserving telephone records, recordings, caller information, reviews, social-media posts, messages, threats, and other evidence.
We have also been in communication with legal counsel and are evaluating all available civil remedies to protect our family, our employees, our reputation, and Davis Roofing Group.
We want to make one thing exceptionally clear:
We are not asking anyone to retaliate on our behalf.
Please do not threaten, harass, contact, review, or target anyone involved. We will handle this through law enforcement, our attorney, the appropriate platforms, and the legal system.
We have spent approximately a decade building Davis Roofing Group through hard work and by taking care of homeowners throughout this community. Our reputation was not created by a social-media video, and it will not be defined by one.
To our customers and members of the community who know our company and have reached out with kindness and support, thank you. It means more to our family and employees right now than you probably realize.
We will continue doing what we have always done: showing up for our customers, standing behind our work, and protecting the company our family has worked so hard to build.
