Labor Day weekend is coming, and around here that is not an abstract holiday. Appalachian Pipeline Contractors is a union contractor signatory to four crafts. The welders, operators, laborers, and teamsters who build our spreads are skilled tradespeople with careers, pensions, and pride in the work. If you are sizing up pipeline contractors by headcount, you are measuring the wrong thing. Capacity in this business is built on spreads: complete, self-contained crews with the equipment, supervision, and craft labor to put pipe in the ground start to finish. We run self-perform spreads, which means the people doing the work answer to us, not to a chain of subcontractors. Independent does not mean small. It means accountable.

A new kind of buyer is entering the pipeline market. Data center and power project developers need gas infrastructure, and many of them have never hired a pipeline contractor before. EPC stands for engineering, procurement, and construction: one contract, one point of responsibility, from permitting through the final weld. If you are evaluating the model for the first time, we wrote a plain-language explainer with no sales pitch in it.
