WHY PROPER PRICING MATTERS IN LAND CLEARING
In this business, the cheapest bid isn’t always the best bid.
Forestry mulching and land clearing involve a lot more than putting a machine on a piece of property and going to work. Behind that price are fuel, transportation, equipment payments, maintenance, cutting teeth, tracks, hydraulic components, insurance, labor, repairs, depreciation—and the unexpected things you don’t see until you get into the woods.
A contractor who only looks at the acreage and throws out a low number may get the job—but getting the job and making money on the job are two completely different things.
That’s how contractors end up realizing halfway through a project that they’re losing money. Some walk away. Others go back to the customer asking for additional money that wasn’t part of the original agreement.
Neither situation is good for the customer.
That’s why pricing correctly matters.
A professional bid should cover the true cost of doing the work, account for the risk involved, and leave room for a reasonable profit.
Profit isn’t a dirty word. Profit is what keeps the equipment maintained, the fuel tank full, the bills paid, and the contractor in business long enough to finish your job.
So when one land-clearing quote is higher than another, don't automatically assume somebody is trying to overcharge you.
Sometimes the higher bid is simply coming from the contractor who actually did the math.
Anybody can price a job to get it.
The real question is: Did they price it to finish it?
