Yellow Pine Nickel Gap Paneling – Ready for Its New Home

In this video, you'll see us giving this yellow pine nickel gap paneling a light pass through the sander before it heads out the door.

It's a small step that makes a big difference.

That light "kiss" from the sander helps remove any minor knife marks from the milling process and leaves the material with a smoother, stain-ready surface for our customer.

It's one of those details you won't typically find at the big box stores. We believe going the extra mile matters, and those extra steps help create a better finished product once it's installed.

From custom milling and drying to finished millwork, we're always looking for ways to deliver a superior product and help our customers achieve the look they're after.

Sometimes the hardest part isn't building something new—it's recreating something that already exists.

These decorative brackets came to us with significant rot and deterioration. The customer needed replacements that would match the originals while standing up to years of weather exposure.

Using thermally modified wood, we carefully recreated each piece, matching the original profiles and curves while improving durability for the future.

To simplify installation, we incorporated hidden mahogany dowels into the assembly. This allows the pieces to align properly without the customer having to drill and fit multiple parts on site.

Projects like this require a little detective work, careful layout, and a lot of patience. Every restoration project presents its own challenges, and that's what makes them rewarding.

🚨 Emergency Stop Work Order 🚨

Yesterday evening, all shop operations were temporarily suspended due to a critical situation...

The strawberries were ripe.

Max and Luna immediately responded to the emergency and headed to the patch before the rabbits could claim the harvest.

Meanwhile, Nova took her security duties very seriously, patrolling the perimeter and making it clear to any nearby bunnies:

"Back off rabbits. These strawberries are for my kids."

A few buckets later, the mission was a success. Fresh strawberries were picked, plenty were sampled during quality control, and by this morning most of the evidence had mysteriously disappeared.

Sometimes it's good to step away from the sawmill, put down the tools, and enjoy a little time with family.

The lumber will still be here tomorrow. The strawberries won't.

Setting up the molder for custom drop siding at the 207 East Beach Street project in Three Oaks, Michigan.

Most people see the finished siding. What they don’t always see is everything that goes into making it happen.

Carbide-tipped knives.
Multiple cutter heads.
Backer plates.
Precision setup.
Measurements. Adjustments. Test cuts. Repeat.

There are a lot of moving parts involved in getting a custom molding profile dialed in correctly — and every small adjustment matters.

This setup will be running custom drop siding, milled specifically for the project. Traditional character with modern equipment.

🌲 Happy Friday from the sawmill 🌲

These customers brought in some maple logs for custom milling. The logs were a little rough and definitely took some extra patience and determination, but we were able to pull some beautiful usable lumber out of them.

They were so happy with the results, they came back with more logs for us to mill.

That’s one of the best parts of what we do — helping customers turn their own trees into something valuable and usable instead of letting the material go to waste.
