The Therrien Waddell Construction team began its incubation in the 1970s.“I had been in the construction business for a few years, and here is this guy fresh out of college on the construction site,” said Donnie Waddell. Young Jerry Therrien proved to be a quick learner, and he and Donnie built a mutual respect for each other from the ground up, moving earth and building structures together, and u

ltimately leading the construction operations of two development companies over the next decades. Over the years, Jerry and Donnie built reputations based on honesty and unwavering values.They experienced the integration of leasing requirements, lenders, property management, government regulators, design needs, building efficiency, schedule imperatives and cost control lessons through a vast variety and scope of projects. Donnie explained the partnership as “a natural path to the next phase in our evolution. Together, we learned the value of viewing the project from different perspectives. We learned the right way to treat people and to execute plans.”

The most important part of history is how it shapes the future. “In 2005, our time had come,” said Jerry. “We had experience, maturity, professional credibility. We built great industry relationships. It was the right time to pull all of the experience and relationships together.” The partners recruited trusted and experienced people from the industry with whom they had history. Today, many of those people are still part of the business family formed by Jerry and Donnie. In the decade since TW was formed, the team has been awarded some prestigious honors for a variety of projects. Our expertise has expanded into a broad range of project types. Although we have grown in breadth and depth, our fundamental values will never change:

❗️ PROJECT PROGRESS UPDATE | Second Chance Wildlife Center❗️

Despite all the snow and wetness we have experienced, things are continuing to move forward over at Second Chance Wildlife Center in Gaithersburg, MD's new facility!

Our project team has prepped the foundation walls with insulation and ready for the layer of stone to go under the slab. All the plumbing is roughed in and ready to go. There's still grading that needs to be completed but once complete, they'll be installing the rebar, wire mesh and v***r barrier next so that we can pour the slab!

This past Sunday, December 17th, Unitarian Universalist Church of Silver Spring and TW Construction held a "Wall Breaking" Ceremony after Sunday's service to commence Phase 2 - renovation of their existing Community Center!

This milestone was reached after 10+ years of planning and hard work by UUCSS and we were so grateful that we could celebrate with them so they are able to maximize the use of this building in the future. The Minister led everyone with the blessing of the wall and the building and 2 lucky members were able to hit the wall to kickoff the renovation!

The Project Team will be upgrading the exterior walls, existing roof and fenestration, upgrading the mechanical system, lighting and fire alarm and adding a sprinkler system.

Earlier this year we completed MegaMart's new facility located in Gaithersburg, MD which allows them to have a stand alone store and dedicated parking lot to accommodate their ever growing and loyal customers.

Currently our Project Team has removed the existing concrete slab, backfilled the new pad area to grade. Next up:

❗️ PROJECT PROGRESS UPDATE | Walnut Hill Shopping Center – Shell Alteration ❗️

Our project team is cruising along with getting the landlord work done prior to turning over the space to the tenant. Right now we are demoing existing slab in preparation of pouring new foundation. Once that is complete we will be installing new structural steel to reinforce the floor and new roof due to relocating existing HVAC and refrigeration equipment from ground level to the roof.

LAS Open House | 1730 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC 📍

TW's Project Team had the privilege of attending Lord Aeck Sargent's Open House last night to celebrate their new office space that we had the honor to build out for them and 10 years in the Washington DC area!

Lord Aeck Sargent is a full-service, award-winning architectural and design firm with 6 offices nationwide. Their new space is approximate 2,182SF, where our Project Team did a partial demolition of an existing office to create an open floor plan with seating at desks, library, breakroom, lobby, conference and meeting rooms. One of the meeting rooms is known as their "Immersive Room" where they are able to bring their clients and have them experience their new space they have designed!

LAS's goal is to create buildings that have a restorative, positive impact on the building's inhabitants and a regenerative impact on the environment. Which one of their initiatives is "Sustainability & Wellness" and we loved how they tied that into their "Succulent Bar" where guest can create their own Succulent plant to take home!

Congratulations LAS on this BIG milestone and we are so honored we were able to be part of this journey with you!

❗️PROJECT PROGRESS UPDATE | Solera Cafe ❗️

Our project team has wrapped up this boutique café ☕ on Metropolitan Ave in Kensington, MD but wanted to share progress photos while we wait for final punch list items and equipment to be installed!

This historic building is adjacent to the newly constructed senior living facility and was re-purposed as an amenity to the neighborhood and residents of the senior living facility!

Take a sneak peek into the progress out at one of our daycare projects located in North Bethesda! This 13,458 space was previously office space that was completely gutted and converted into a daycare. Our Project Team is also installing an exterior playground that is roughly 4,500 SF!

Earlier this month, TW Construction was not only awarded the 2021 Safe General Contractor of the Year Award by Maryland AGC, but we were also awarded Zero Lost Time Award for 2021 and 100% Below NACIS Award!!!

Safety is our #1 PRIORITY and we are so proud of our Superintendents for leading by example on their job sites and ensuring anyone who steps foot on their site is following the safety protocols they have in place.

Thank you to Project Manager, Alex Ramirez for his efforts attending safety groups and bringing new ideas to the table for our evolution of our safety guidelines and CFO, Amanda Raman, CPA, CCIFP who ensures our employees have all safety equipment necessary, and coordinates trainings so our Superintendents and Project Management teams have up to date trainings and staying on top of their certifications.

❗️PROJECT PROGRESS UPDATE | MegaMart Gaithersburg❗️

We have a lot of activity happening on the site this update!

Steel is pretty much complete and we have framers on the second level so we can install the roof once framing is complete! Our project team has also started rough-in on the ground level to prepare to pour slab in the next couple of weeks. Last but not least, our site contractor have been taking advantage of the beautiful weather we've been having and digging trenches preparing for the main sewer line!

Long overdue but TW Construction and The GreenBench Companies were able to get together last night at Saints Row Brewing to mix and mingle and enjoy the beautiful fall weather, variety of IPA's 🍻 and #3 smashburger 🍔 in the state of Maryland grilled by Steeze Burger!

We had a great time yesterday afternoon talking with the Camp NAWIC girls hosted by NAWIC DC Chapter #67, Associated Builders and Contractors of Metro Washington and Women Building Washington!

Camp NAWIC is a week-long camp for young women who are curious about career opportunities in construction!

Thank you to everyone involved for putting this together and giving back to our community and industry! We are PROUD supporters in helping the next generation!

TW Construction constructed this new 12,000SqFt, three level community center in the Kentland's neighborhood back in 2001! The community center includes an elevator, fitness room, locker areas, offices, conferences, and multipurpose rooms.

Complex structural frame included combination of wood, steel and concrete. Extensive pool deck encompassed three swimming pools, pool house, arbors, and a concession stand.

#TWTuesdayFeature | Neighborhood Veterinary Associates | Clarksburg, MD Our Project Team was honored to be part of NVA’s expansion due to the growth of their business and needing additional space for their services. Lucky for them, they were able to move next door which we built out for them 6 years ago! This was previously a Pet Value, 3,228 SqFt, that we completed gutted and built new exam rooms, offices, x-ray and surgery rooms, cat and dog boarding areas, reception area and breakroom for the employees. We worked closely with NVA and DCI Architects through the design and precon phase to ensure we could deliver their space on time and within budget, while not compromising their vision. #TWTuesdayFeature | MCS Inc located in Gaithersburg, MD! TW conducted this 18,000 SqFt project in an occupied two phase construction to minimize the impact on business operations. Our project team did a complete design build delivery to renovate and modernize the existing facility! The interior scope consisted of new private offices, conference rooms, expansion and renovation of the kitchen/lounge area and restrooms. MCS wanted a distinctive visual element as you first walk in which lead to creating this custom millwork screen wall in the main entry way. We also installed a new storefront, replaced the roof and upgraded all the light fixtures for energy efficiency! Today's #TWthrowbackthursday, we are featuring Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience, Washington DC! We had the pleasure of working on this amazing art exhibit this past summer with our great friends at DCI Architects, LLC! It was critical that we worked close with DCI and the owner since we had to delivery this space in a very short time to hit the opening date! Our Project Team did a complete gut of an existing 20,000sf, which used to be a Big Lots. The Therrien Waddell team and families took a well-deserved break on June 16 for the annual company picnic, complete with the famed winner-take-all TW cornhole playoffs and hotly-contested kickball tourney. Everyone enjoyed delicious picnic fare, games and the camaraderie of the incomparable Therrien Waddell team. We can’t think of a better way to kick off summer!
