Starting August 1 businesses can no longer sell incandescent bulbs! If you are using these bulbs, you may want to consider changing to LED bulbs instead. LED bulbs have a longer span and they do not get hot to the touch. They also save you money in the long run.

ATTENTION HOT TUB PURCHASERS
Call your electrician before you purchase a hot tub and find out what's involved in setting up your hot tub. You will be surprised that you cannot just plug it into a regular outlet. There are electrical codes that must be followed, and the electric should be installed BEFORE you purchase the hot tub to avoid problems after your purchase. If a hot tub is installed properly, you can rest assured you will be safe and able to enjoy it.

Dedicated circuits are a must when installing a refrigerator, microwave, range and/or oven(s) and dishwasher. We have been getting phone calls from people who buy a new refrigerator or freezer and put the old refrigerator or freezer in the garage and the circuit breaker keeps tripping. That's because the fridge needs its own circuit and not a circuit where it is sharing with other appliances. Please be safe and call an electrician to install a circuit for you.

On May 6, 2021, we lost our Sparky due to twisted stomach. We lost a very dear member of our J&G family and we will always remember our Sparky. In Sparky's memory, please check with your veterinarian about twisted stomach and how you can prevent it and what dogs are prone to this. We had no idea what it was until it happened to our Sparky and it was too late. Give your pet a hug from us in memory of Sparky too!

We received a call from a customer that their breaker kept tripping and wouldn’t reset. The breaker was also hot and a light plugged into that circuit kept fluctuating.
Turns out they could have had a fire because the breaker was very loose and was arcing.
Please call us to inspect your panel to tighten up any loose connections; especially if you live in an older home. Connections become loose over time and this can be an issue. Our panel inspection costs $89 and we will inspect and tighten the breakers and test to make sure you don’t have any problems. Stay Safe!

Important Information about Smoke Detectors:
1.Test your detectors monthly to make sure they are working.
2. Replace your detectors every 7-10 years as the sensors wear out!
3. New detectors now have expiration dates. With a Sharpee, write the date of installation on your detector so you know when they were installed.
4. Look at the new interconnected detectors -- one sounds and they will ALL sound to keep you safe at night!
5. Protect your family and make sure you have the newest detectors for your home. You should NO LONGER need to change batteries in your detectors if you have the new ones.
6. If you have gas in your home, make sure you have a carbon monoxide detector near the gas appliance or water heater.

Safety Tip of the Day! Tightly wrapped cords trap in more heat than they should and can melt the cord's insulation and start a fire. Make sure your cords are loosely wrap and in a safe spot to create a safe space!

If you have a senior in high school who really doesn't want to go to college and wants to do something else, please encourage them to go to trade school to become an electrician. There's a huge shortage and it's only going to become larger if we can't find qualified help. It still takes four years to become a journeyman electrician, but you won't have student debt and will make $25-$35/hour to start!! An apprentice earns around $22-$25 to start. Think about it!

The electricians' industry is expected to see a labor shortage of 60,000 workers by 2026.

Meet Brandon! 👋🏼 He is our newest addition to the team as office manager! Brandon is a native Marylander, born and raised around the Frederick area. He is also a recent graduate, where he finished his BA in Sociology, from McDaniel College in Westminster, MD in May 2018. He has a background in both administrative work and in the electrical field, where he was a previous apprentice electrician at J&G Electric Co! Brandon is excited and ready to work again with the J&G team!
