A lasting exterior paint job starts before the first coat goes on. 🏡

We’re washing this home as we begin its exterior repaint. Removing dirt and buildup gives us a clean surface to work with. Allowing it to dry, addressing damaged areas, and preparing the surfaces are just as important as the paint itself.

Exterior paint does more than freshen up your home—it helps protect siding and trim from sun, rain, and everyday exposure. When that protective coating begins cracking or peeling, exposed materials become more vulnerable to moisture and deterioration.

Our advice: take a walk around your home a few times a year. Look for peeling paint, open caulk joints, and soft wood, especially around windows, doors, and lower trim. Catching those issues early can help prevent bigger repairs.

A lot of exterior paint problems actually start underneath the paint.

On this chimney, we found 15 pieces of rotten siding along with four deteriorated corner boards. Simply painting over them would have made everything look better temporarily—but it wouldn’t have solved the problem.

We removed the damaged material, replaced the corner boards with PVC trim to better withstand future moisture exposure, repaired the siding, properly prepped the surfaces, and finished the trim with Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane.

One thing we always recommend before repainting an exterior: take the time to inspect for rot, failed caulking, and areas where water may be getting behind the paint. Fixing those issues first can save a homeowner from having to repair and repaint the same area again later.

Sometimes the best paint job is the one you DON’T need.

We were out in Flowery Branch today inspecting a home where the homeowner originally thought they needed a complete exterior repaint.

After looking everything over, we found that the paint was still in good condition. What they actually needed was just a few pieces of damaged trim replaced and painted.

Estimated savings to the homeowner: around $10,000.

Could we have sold a much larger project? Maybe. But that’s not how we want to build Wheeler Painting.

We’d rather give people an honest assessment, solve the actual problem, and earn their trust. We may not have landed a big exterior repaint today, but we gained something much more valuable: a customer and a potential referral partner.

And the best part of my day?

That young man beside me. He’s my son. He’s definitely not a baby anymore, but he’ll always be my baby. I’m incredibly blessed that I get to work alongside him every day.

Starting Monday, we’ll be restoring two chimneys by replacing 15 damaged pieces of fiber-cement siding and all four corner boards with durable PVC trim.

At Wheeler Painting, we specialize in painting, but we also complete the carpentry repairs necessary to properly support and protect our finished work. Once the repairs and preparation are complete, we’ll finish the chimneys with Sherwin-Williams Duration for long-lasting protection and a beautiful appearance.

Today we’re at Copper Springs completing a large HOA fence-staining project.

This is approximately 500 linear feet of new privacy fence, and we’re staining both sides with two coats of Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck Oil-Based Semi-Solid Stain in the color Pepperidge.

You can see one of our painters spraying behind me. We use professional spray equipment to work the stain evenly into the wood, followed by careful inspection to ensure consistent color and complete coverage.

This process doesn’t just improve the fence’s appearance—it protects the new wood from moisture, sunlight, and premature deterioration.

29 commercial doors complete in Buford!
These doors were permanently stained after being stacked in mud during construction. We cleaned, prepped, primed, and refinished all 29 for a clean, factory-like finish.

It has been approximately one month since these homeowners moved back into their home following this 6,000-square-foot interior repaint.

When we returned to complete their final touch-up list, the entire list took less than one hour to complete. That is something we are extremely proud of.

This project became much more than an interior repaint. It developed into a minor interior renovation that included extensive carpentry work, converting an office into a bedroom by adding a new closet, staining all of the decks, renovating the boat dock, and painting a large portion of the home’s exterior.

With a project of this size and scope, having less than one hour of touch-ups after the homeowners moved in speaks volumes about the quality, attention to detail, and craftsmanship our team delivered.
