Why does my AC smell weird when I turn it on for the first time?

That musty smell on the first startup? Usually moisture sitting in the evaporator coil all off-season.

Pretty common here in Georgia with our humidity. Should clear out within an hour of running.

But if it smells more like burning plastic or chemicals, shut it off. Don't mess around with that one.

That's usually an electrical issue or a refrigerant leak. Both need eyes on them fast.

Call us at 470-590-2340 and we'll come check it out before it turns into something bigger.

Are smart thermostats actually worth it?

For most Gainesville homes, yes.

We installed Ecobee and Carrier Infinity. Both typically cut heating and cooling costs 10–15%.

They learn your schedule, adjust for North Georgia humidity, and let you run the system from your phone.

Most Hall County families see ROI in about 2 years.

One catch, your current system has to be compatible. We'll check before we install anything.

Why does my house feel humid even with the AC running?

Welcome to a Georgia summer.

Your AC's main job is cooling. Dehumidifying is a side effect of long run times.

If your system is oversized, it cools the air fast and shuts off before it can pull the moisture out.

That's why the house feels 72° and clammy at the same time.

Quick check: make sure your fan is set to AUTO, not ON.

Running it on ON re-evaporates moisture off the coil and dumps it right back into your house.

If that doesn't fix it, you're looking at one of three things. An oversized system, a low refrigerant charge, or a need for a whole-house dehumidifier.

We can pop a meter on it and tell you which one in about 30 minutes.

This attic tells the whole story.

Rheem furnace. Aprilaire media filter. Active air purifier on the supply side. Every connection sealed tight.

Most installs skip the air quality piece. They slap in a unit and call it done.

This homeowner wanted the full setup, temperature control AND clean air running through every room.

That secondary drain pan underneath? Non-negotiable in attic installs. If something leaks, it's not coming through your ceiling.

Clean work. No shortcuts.

This is what happens when someone cuts corners on an AC install.

Wood timbers. A dirt slope. A condenser that's one rainstorm away from tipping over.
Here's what's already going wrong:

That unlevel unit is forcing the compressor to work overtime. Wood against soil rots fast.

And those copper refrigerant lines? They're under constant stress from the shifting.

A proper install takes maybe an extra hour. Level ground. A concrete equipment pad.

Done right the first time.

The "cheap" install always costs more eventually.

Most attic installs we see? The unit's just sitting on plywood. No backup pan. No real thought behind it.

This one's different.

Spray-foamed attic keeps the space conditioned. Media filter cabinet catches what cheap filters miss. Auxiliary drain pan underneath in case the primary line ever clogs.

That last part matters more than people think.

A clogged drain line in an attic with no backup pan? That's water through your ceiling.

We've seen it ruin drywall, insulation, even hardwood floors below.

The details cost a little more upfront. They save a lot more later.

How long does it take to install a new AC?

Standard swap with same ductwork? 6-8 hours. One day, done.

Full system change-out with new ductwork runs 2-3 days.

We pull the permits. Do the work clean. Haul the old unit away.

No surprise charges tacked on at the end. The number we quote is the number you pay.

Got a system on its last legs? Call us at 470-590-2340 before it quits on a 95° afternoon.

Keep 2 feet clear around your outdoor unit.

Leaves, mulch, that stack of pool noodles from last summer, all of it chokes airflow.

When your condenser can't breathe, the compressor works overtime. That's when repair bills start climbing.

Walk outside right now. Look at your AC unit.

If anything's within arm's reach of it, move it back. Takes five minutes.

While you're there, brush off the top grate. Pollen and debris pile up fast in North Georgia.

This one habit prevents more emergency calls than people realize.

Need a deeper clean or tune-up? We'll make sure everything's running right.

Closing vents in empty rooms doesn't save money. It actually costs you more.

Your system is sized for your whole house. When you close vents, pressure builds up in the ductwork.

That pressure makes your blower work harder. Uses more electricity. Wears out faster.
We've seen blower motors fail years early because of this.

If you want real control over which rooms get air, that's what a zoning system does.

Dampers in the ducts. Separate thermostats.

But closing vents? That's not the shortcut it seems like.

Do you really want to save money on your energy bills?

Call us at 470-590-2340 and we'll help you.
