Our prayers go out to all affected by the flood waters. Please everyone one stay safe.
I was hoping to clear up a few negative comments about how the flood waters are being handled by Alabama power.
Yes, Weiss Lake is having devastating flooding.
The North end of Neely Henry Lake is also experiencing devastating flooding. The South end of Neely Henry Lake is experiencing extremely low levels.
This is due to many narrow winding turns of approximately 90 degrees and 1 big, bad, narrow, deep turn off about 150 degrees (Minnesota Bend) throughout Neely Henry.
There is about 16 foot drop in water elevation between where the Coosa enters Neely Henry and exits Neely Henry because AL POWER CO is expelling water so fast that Upstream Waters cannot keep up with a downstream water.
Furthermore, the next lake to the South of Neely Henry Dam (Logan Martin) is also experiencing extremely high waters. And that dam is expelling water as fast as it can too and so forth and so on all the way down to the Gulf.
Both Weiss Lake and Logan Martin Lake are very widespread and for the most part more shallow when compared to Neely Henry.
This is why Neely Henry’s lake level reflects a low number, but Logan Martin and Weiss Lakes numbers are fairly accurate throughout the Lakes, Neely Henry's lake level at the dam is a very deceiving number.
I hope this can clear up some things. We are praying for all of that are affected. Remember to stay safe!
