Hand sculpted concrete is a lost art known as “Trabajo Rustico and Faux Bois” which dates back to 1800 hundreds and was very popular in France. She uses re-bar, wire, concrete, blood, sweat, & tears to create these magnificent works of art. They are solid concrete, meaning they are VERY heavy, but that has never slowed her down. About the Artist:
Melinda is the youngest of 12 children raised on a
southern Michigan dairy farm. Sculpting cement is her passion. With the help of family and friends she has been able to do it successfully for 18 years. She has three daughters and six grandchildren. Melinda is not a fan of the internet. That includes facebook and other social media. She would much rather be outdoors or working on her art. This lost art of El Trabajo Rustico, or Faux Bois (imitation wood), involves welding re-bar and covering it with wire mesh then adding layers of cement then carving each knot hole, wood grains, etc. while the cement is wet. It is very labor intensive. Melinda has been recognized in/by:
