I used to think flower cuttings were harder than this, but some of them really do root beautifully in just water 🌸 A few little things that help:
🌿 Use a clean jar so the stem doesn’t rot
✂️ Cut just below a leaf node, that’s where roots usually form best
💧 Change the water every few days so it stays fresh
☀️ Keep the jar in bright light, but not harsh direct sun
🌱 Wait until the roots are a few inches long before moving them into soil
My favorite part is being able to watch the roots grow. It makes propagation feel a lot less intimidating, especially if you’re just starting out.

If your garden gets full sun and summer heat cooks everything, these are the “don’t baby me” bloomers. ☀️🌼

A few easy wins for better results:
🌱 Plant when nights are reliably warm and water deeply for the first 2–3 weeks so roots go down. After that, let the top inch of soil dry before watering again.
✂️ Deadhead zinnias, cosmos, and blanket flower to keep blooms coming.
🐝 Add at least two types for pollinators and longer color, like butterfly w**d + coneflower + black-eyed Susan.

Soil tip: even tough flowers do better with a little compost mixed in at planting time. It helps hold moisture without staying soggy.

🐦 In the next 7 days, 317 species of birds will begin moving north across North America.

12 of them will stop in your yard. You won't notice most of them.

Here's who's arriving right now — first week of March:

- Red-winged Blackbirds — already here. Males arrived 2 weeks before females to claim territory. That "conk-la-ree!" from the cattails isn't singing. It's a property deed.

- Killdeer — back on parking lots and gravel driveways. They nest on bare ground. Your driveway is their nursery.

- American Woodcock — performing sky dances at dusk starting tonight. 300 feet up. Spiral descent. Cosmic whistling sound. Every evening until May.

- Turkey Vultures — riding thermals back north. 200 miles a day without flapping. You'll see them circling by Friday.

- Eastern Phoebe — one of the first flycatchers to return. Pumps its tail nonstop. Nests on your porch light.

- Song Sparrow — already singing at dawn. 6-14 different songs per male. Each one memorized, not inherited.

The dawn chorus gets louder every morning from now until June. Open your window at 5:30am tomorrow. The difference from last week is measurable.

Migration has started. Your yard is a rest stop.
