Curt's Construction Company I personally have over 47 years of physically building homes around the Bay Area. That is not combined, like my competition!

That gives us an advantage over others. Experience is the best teacher of any craft. I started right after High School in 1978.

You can learn a lot from a truck bed. 🛻

Last week we talked about what a good contractor sounds like. Now let's talk about what one looks like.

✅ Their truck and tools are organized. A messy truck usually means a messy job.
✅ They show up prepared. Tape measure, flashlight, notepad. They're ready to work, not just talk.
✅ Their license number is on the bid. In California, it's required on bids, contracts, and ads.
✅ They hand you proof of insurance without you having to ask twice.
✅ The bid is written and itemized, not scribbled on the back of a business card.
✅ Their job sites are protected. Floors covered, dust walls up, and cleaned up at the end of the day.
✅ The crew is familiar. You see the same faces, not strangers every week.
✅ Changes are written down, every time, before the work gets done.

None of this costs a contractor extra. It's just habits. And habits are what you're really hiring.

After 47+ years, I can tell you the way someone keeps their truck is the way they'll keep your house.

At the walkthrough, listen closer than you look. The words tell you everything.

✅ What a good one sounds like:

"Tell me more about how you use this room."
"I don't know, but I'll find out and call you."
"That wall is load-bearing. Here's what that means for you."
"Your budget won't cover all of that. Here's where I'd put the money."
"That's not my specialty. I know someone who does it right."
"This will need a permit."

🚩 What a problem sounds like:

"We don't need a permit for that."
"Cash gets you a discount."
"I can start Monday."
"Trust me."
"Sign today and I'll knock off 10%."

Here's the pattern. A pro protects YOU, even when it costs them the sale. A salesman protects the sale.

Picking lumber takes a few extra minutes. Fixing a twisted board after it's nailed in takes a lot longer. Sight it, compare it, and only take what's straight.
