Today, on National Fire Prevention Day, we’re reminding everyone that a few simple precautions can make a big difference in protecting your home, your family, and the people you care about.

Take a few minutes today to:
• Test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms every month
• Review your family’s fire escape plan and make sure everyone knows two ways out
• Keep fire extinguishers accessible in key areas of your home or business and on every floor
• Make sure everyone in your household knows where extinguishers are located and how to use them
• Talk with your children about what to do in an emergency

National Hero Day

Today, on National Hero Day, we celebrate the everyday heroes who make a difference in our lives and our communities.

Heroes don’t always wear capes. Sometimes they wear a firefighter’s gear, a police or military uniform, scrubs, a teacher’s badge, work boots, or simply the title of Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, coach, mentor, or friend.

Today we recognize our firefighters, police officers, EMTs, paramedics, healthcare workers, teachers, parents, caregivers, coaches, mentors, and community volunteers who step up when someone needs help.

We especially want to recognize the people who help guide our children. Every child deserves adults who encourage them, teach them right from wrong, listen when they need to talk, celebrate their accomplishments, and help them become confident, caring and responsible adults.

You may never know how much one conversation, one lesson, one act of kindness, or simply showing up can change the direction of a young person’s life.

Happy World Teachers’ Day!

Today we celebrate the teachers who educate, encourage, challenge, inspire, and believe in their students every single day.

Great teachers do so much more than teach lessons from a textbook. They help build confidence, recognize potential, encourage curiosity, and sometimes become the person a student remembers for the rest of their life.

Most of us can think of at least one teacher who made a difference in our lives. Maybe they made learning fun, encouraged you when you were struggling, helped you discover something you were good at, or simply made you feel seen and valued.

NATIONAL CINNAMON BUN DAY

A chilly fall day is the perfect excuse to warm the kitchen with the comforting smell of homemade cinnamon rolls. Soft, buttery dough, a rich cinnamon-sugar filling and cream cheese icing make these rolls worth every minute of preparation.

HOMEMADE CINNAMON ROLLS WITH CREAM CHEESE ICING

Makes approximately 12 rolls

Dough:

• 1 cup warm milk, approximately 105–110°F
• 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast, one packet
• ¼ cup granulated sugar, divided
• 2 large eggs, room temperature
• ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 4 to 4½ cups all-purpose flour

Filling:

• ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
• ¾ cup packed brown sugar
• 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
• Pinch of salt

Cream Cheese Icing:

• 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
• ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
• 1½ cups powdered sugar
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1 to 2 tablespoons milk

Directions:

Combine the warm milk, yeast and 1 tablespoon of the sugar. Let it rest for 5–10 minutes, until foamy.
Add the remaining sugar, eggs, melted butter and salt. Gradually mix in 4 cups of flour. Add a little more flour if needed, until a soft and slightly tacky dough forms.
Knead the dough for approximately 6–8 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover and allow it to rise in a warm place for 60–90 minutes, or until doubled in size.
Roll the dough into an approximately 12-by-18-inch rectangle. Spread the softened butter across the dough.
Combine the brown sugar, cinnamon and salt, then sprinkle the mixture evenly over the butter.
Beginning with a long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Cut it into 12 equal rolls and arrange them in a greased 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
Cover and allow the rolls to rise for another 30–45 minutes, until puffy.
Bake at 350°F for approximately 22–27 minutes, until lightly golden and baked through.
Beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add the powdered sugar, vanilla and enough milk to reach your preferred consistency.
Spread the icing over the warm cinnamon rolls and enjoy.
