Beaver addition update! We poured the footer today. 27 yards of concrete, 3 trucks... in Beaver on Garrison Days! Triple 5/8 rebar reinforced Ufer bonded to the electrical panel. Beaver is in a Glacial Basin near the Ohio River so the ground is mainly sand and river rocks so it needed to be trenched and sured to prevent it from caving in. The existing houses stone foundation was parged where exposed and one corner was poured with reinforced concrete. Next step is pinning the foundation and starting the block!

Since we are closing off the basement entrance for the addition we need to repair these floor joists in the kitchen area. The kitchen of the existing house is being remodeled along with the addition. Don't mind the cistern, it unlocked a new fear for me!

The electrical panel evaluation for the new service entry was quite eye opening!

Check out this granite enterance way. Yep, not tile but an 800lb slab of leathered granite that was installed instead of tile for those dirty shoes when they come in this house! We just have to finish up the trim and odds and ends after the counters are installed on this job!

We have been so busy the past year that I haven't had a chance to post anything! But this week we have been on a very special project. We are removing a wall from a house built in the late 1700s. This house was constructed with mortise and tenon framing, which pre dated the industrial production of nails. Typically this is seen in old barns. 30 years of construction work and this is probably the 2nd or 3rd project that Ive had the chance to work on like this. It involved special bracing and support for the wall removal and header installation. Glad its done, it was very dusty and dirty! There were many years of coal and wood dust in these walls. It was so cool to see framing with no nails, no holes for electrical, water or duct work! Bathrooms were originally out houses!

On today's episode of "That's a Good Way to Burn Your House Down." I can't believe these didn't arc out!

Glad we got this service upgrade done today... before the snow!!! Did I mention that I hate the cold! This is step one of this house remodel. Replacing the entire electrical service entry and panel from a 60 amp Pushmatic (fire hazard) to a 200 amp, running gas line into the hose since it doesn't have natural gas currently, new everything from furnace to water main... even installing a.... (drum roll please).... elevator. The house needs some TLC but once it's done it will be Amazing.
