🚨 HOMEOWNERS: THE CHEAPEST CONTRACTOR CAN BECOME THE MOST EXPENSIVE MISTAKE YOU EVER MAKE. 🚨
Before you give ANY contractor your money, ask one simple question:
ARE YOU ACTUALLY LICENSED TO DO THIS WORK IN VIRGINIA?
And don’t just take their word for it.
LOOK THEM UP. VERIFY THEM.
🔨 A nice truck doesn’t mean they’re licensed.
⭐ Great Facebook reviews don’t mean they’re licensed.
💰 A cheap estimate definitely doesn’t mean they’re qualified.
🤝 “I know a guy” isn’t a contractor’s license.
Your home may be your largest investment. Why would you trust it to someone without taking five minutes to check them out?
Before signing a contract:
✅ Verify their Virginia contractor’s license
✅ Make sure it’s ACTIVE
✅ Make sure the company name matches
✅ Verify they’re licensed for the type of work you’re hiring them to perform
✅ Check for disciplinary history
✅ Ask for proof of insurance
✅ Get the scope, price, warranty, and payment terms IN WRITING
⚠️ If a contractor doesn’t want you checking their license, that should tell you everything you need to know.
A low price can look great TODAY.
But unfinished work, poor workmanship, property damage, disappearing deposits, and paying someone else to fix the job can cost you THOUSANDS TOMORROW.
DON’T GAMBLE WITH YOUR HOME.
Take the time.
Do the research.
Ask the questions.
VERIFY BEFORE YOU HIRE.
🏠 LICENSED. INSURED. ACCOUNTABLE.
That’s not asking too much.
That should be the MINIMUM.
Last week, DPOR's regulatory board overseeing contractors voted to revoke several licenses for violations.
Before you hire, always check if someone has an active license, complaints, or disciplinary action on file.
