⚡ Outage Update

Severe storms caused more than 13,500+ outages across REC’s service territory today. Since this afternoon, crews have restored power to roughly 5,000 members and will continue working until every affected member is back on.

Our crews have been working throughout the afternoon and evening, reporting they’ve had to cut through downed trees and debris to reach damaged equipment and make repairs.

The storm brought down utility poles in several areas, and replacing a broken pole is a time-intensive process. Crews must safely remove the damaged pole and equipment, set a new pole, then reconnect lines, transformers and other equipment before power can be restored. A single pole replacement can take 2-4 hours to complete.

When hunting, never shoot at or near overhead power lines. The damage can not only knock out power and internet service but can also result in costly repairs.

In Virginia, it's also a crime to shoot at power lines.

Always know where power lines and related equipment are located on the land where you hunt.
