Freeze Notice:
360 custom pools and RNR pool service directions for freezing weather.
Most pools these days have an automation panel whether it be Pentair, Hayward, Jandy, or Intermatic that have built in freeze protection if Active. Here are a few things to check and make sure of before the freeze and instructions in case you lose power.
In case of freeze:
Make sure all manual valves for water features such as slides, bubblers, deck jets, waterfalls, etc are open and allowing water to pass through it. Remember predominately running water doesn’t freeze.
If you are unsure if your pool or a feature is currently freeze protected schedule every water feature to be on 24/7 through the freeze and check to see that they are running when temperatures get below 35 degrees. Make sure all RPZ to autofill pr hose bib connections are freeze protected and if your autofill is connected to a faucet on your house turn water off and disconnect from the faucet.
****Do not put blankets/tarps around backs of motors.
If it is freezing weather and you lose power for more than 30 minutes you will need to
Manually freeze protect all of your equipment by following these steps:
******If your equipment is lower than your pool and you lose power please reach out to us or another pool professional before attempting these steps.********
1. Turn all breakers off to pool equipment
2. Take off all automated valve actuators with a screw driver and open all valves to allow water to drain below ground.
3. Take the drain plugs out from the pumps and put them in the pump basket I.e. pentair pumps have two drain plugs on the left hand side of the pump pot that has the basket in it. If not a pentair pump Google drain plug locations for each piece of equipment.
4. Remove drain plugs from cleaner pumps and place in main pump basket
5. Remove drain plug from the bottom of the filter. Sand filters need multiport valve set to winterize/ de and cartridge will need air relief opened on top of tank
6. Remove drain plug from heater and set in pump basket
7. Remove all above ground serviceable check valve flappers like on the spa return line.
8. Heat pumps crack unions loose and allow to drain.
9. If you have an infloor cleaning system it may be difficult but locate the canister that changes waterfall from station to station and remove the lid and band clamp.
10. Remove the drain plug from your nature 2 or tablet feeder and put in filter pump basket.
11. Remove all pump lids and leaf trap lids and leave them off.
12. Keep the ice broken up if the pool starts to freeze over to help protect the tile.
When power is restored you will need to put everything back as you found it and prime pumps or call us and we can facilitate getting you back up and running.
As stated previously the best thing you can do is keep everything running through the freeze to help Minimize damage to your pool. This is not an exhaustive list of everything that can be done but are some best practices to help reduce the amount of damage to your pool or spa.
