Just a heads up to check those sump pumps and make sure you’re curtain drains and gutter downspouts are clear. Looks like a lot more rain is headed our way.

While much of the state gets 1”-3”” of rain Sunday evening into Tuesday morning, there’s potential for a narrow swath of 4”-8”. The question is, where exactly does it set up? Some of our high resolution guidance suggests it may be more likely somewhere in southern CT if it happens in the state. But the location won’t be something we can nail down with confidence. It’s one of those days where we hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Make sure you have a way of getting weather alerts Monday and Tuesday. Also, check the sump pump. Some temporary road closures may be possible at times too.

This is why we are talking about the potential for flooding even though we’re in a drought. If you get 4”-6” in a 6 hour window, that’s enough to push smaller rivers and streams over the edge or overwhelm storm drains. Even rivers that start super low.

❄️ Cold Weather Advisory – All-Tech Plumbing & Heating LLC ❄️

Extremely cold temperatures are expected this weekend. A few quick checks now can help prevent heating problems:

• Oil & gas systems:
Make sure you have plenty of fuel, as usage increases in extreme cold. Keep all vents and air intakes clear of snow and ice, and check your smoke & CO detectors.

• Heat pumps:
Keep outdoor units clear of snow and ice. With wind chills near -20°F, we recommend having electric space heaters on hand as a backup.

• Thermostats:
Avoid turning thermostats down during extreme cold. Keep them set at a steady temperature (70°F or higher).

• Alternate heat sources:
Coal, pellet and wood stoves can reduce circulation in hot-water or radiant systems, increasing the risk of frozen pipes. Know your system—or keep it running.

> Before the cold weather hits, bring your homes and businesses up to temp.

Stay safe and warm.
