If you’re anything like me, you’ve seen all the IKEA hacks promising “easy built-ins.”
And look, there’s nothing wrong with a little DIY, especially when budget matters.
But here’s what those videos usually skip 👇
1. Tools
You almost definitely don’t own the right tools for a clean finish—unless you moonlight as a craftsman. Trim work is where most DIYs fall apart.
2. Time
Sure, you might have time for a project.
But do you have time to learn an entirely new skill?
Like scribing infill stiles to a curved wall… and fixing the surprises that come with it. Professionals price those headaches in for a reason.
3. The end result
Even when it “works,” it usually still looks DIY.
And if you do pull it off, be honest—what was that time actually worth?
DIY has its place.
Built-ins just happen to be one of those projects where experience quietly makes all the difference.
