Crafting Custom Built-Ins: A Journey in Design and Growth
Every project is an opportunity to refine our process, workflow, and approach. Recently, we had the privilege of building and installing a large, custom built-in unit measuring 8 feet wide by 10 feet tall and 18 inches deep.
The Design & Build Process
Working from a design provided by an interior designer (photo #7), we created a detailed 3D model (photo #9) to map out the interior layout and door movement. After careful measurements (photo #8), material planning, and shop fabrication of the carcass, doors, face frames, and drawers, we transported everything to the site for installation.
Following on-site fitting, we:
• Prepared and finished all face frames for primer and paint
• Scuff-sanded doors using 400-grit sandpaper for a smooth finish
• Installed doors, drawers, adjustable shelving, and coat hangers
Smart, Adaptable Design
This unit features 3 custom lockers designed to keep children's items organized and entryways clutter-free. Best of all, it's built to grow with the family: the shelves and coat hooks are fully adjustable, and the center divider can be removed to install larger shelves, transforming the space into a multipurpose area for years to come.
Thank You to Our Clients
No matter the prep work, every project encounters snags, but this family handled every adjustment in stride. We are deeply grateful for their graciousness, hospitality, and curiosity while we worked in their home. I can not thank you and your family enough for the opportunity to work for you through this project!
The goal is always to be better tomorrow than we are today, because small steps turn into big movement. “Just hit singles and doubles, occasionally you will hit a home run. It’s about generating small consistent performance and wins.”
