Every order that comes into our Hurst facility passes through Jose's hands first. He's the one inspecting incoming raw steel shipments, verifying steel against the manifest, completing quality checks, documenting and reporting pre-existing defects, tracking incoming loads, and making sure every shipment is accounted for, accurate and organized.

It's a role that requires precision, organization, and a sharp eye for detail, and we are proud to have such a skilled and dedicated team member leading this charge!

Behind the Steel: Zinc's secret superpower ⚡
Here's something that surprises most people about hot-dip galvanized steel... It's actually self-healing!

If the surface gets scratched, say a bolt hole is drilled, or the edge takes a knock during installation, then the surrounding zinc actually sacrifices itself to protect the exposed steel underneath.
This is called cathodic protection, and it's a natural electrochemical property of zinc. When zinc and steel are in contact, zinc becomes the "sacrificial anode" — it corrodes first, so the steel doesn't have to. The zinc essentially takes the hit so the steel never has to.
It's one of the reasons hot-dip galvanizing outperforms paint, powder coat, and most other surface treatments in harsh environments. There's no patching. No touch-up. The coating looks after itself.

After all the prep — the degreasing, the pickling, the flux treatment — this is the moment it all leads to.

Steel meets molten zinc at roughly 830°F. In an instant, a metallurgical reaction begins. Zinc doesn't just coat the surface — it bonds to it, forming layers of zinc-iron alloy that become part of the steel itself. You can't scratch it off. You can't peel it away. It's built in.

Fun fact about the word "Galvanizing": the man it's named after never coated a single piece of steel with zinc. ⚡
In 1780, Italian scientist Luigi Galvani discovered that a frog's leg would twitch when touched by two different metals, and he believed he'd found a new form of "animal electricity." He was wrong about the cause (it was actually an electrical reaction between the metals, as Alessandro Volta later proved), but his name stuck to the phenomenon: "galvanism."

Decades later, in 1836, French engineer Stanislas Sorel patented the process of coating steel by dipping it in molten zinc — and borrowed the term "galvanizing" to describe it.

So the name has nothing to do with zinc, frogs, or corrosion. It's a 240-year-old case of scientific branding that stuck!

Behind the Steel: The prep before the protection 💪
Before steel ever touches molten zinc, it goes through a journey most people never see:
1️⃣ Degreasing — removes oils, dirt, and residue from manufacturing
2️⃣ Pickling — an acid bath dissolves rust and mill scale, revealing clean steel underneath
3️⃣ Flux treatment — preps the surface so molten zinc bonds evenly

Only then is the steel ready for the zinc bath, where it's submerged at over 800°F and a metallurgical bond forms — zinc and steel fuse together at the molecular level.⚛️
