MYTH OR FACT? Let’s talk HVAC.

“If my HVAC system is running, it must be working properly.”

MYTH.

Your heating or air conditioning can turn on and still have an underlying issue.

Here are a few warning signs to watch for:

• Weak airflow
• Rooms that won’t reach the desired temperature
• Unusual noises
• Ice forming on the system
• Longer run times or comfort problems that are new

These symptoms don’t automatically mean you need a new system. They do mean it’s worth finding out what’s happening.

We recently diagnosed a commercial HVAC system with multiple issues. After evaluating the problems and the cost of continued repairs, replacing the system made more sense than continuing to invest in repairs.

The lesson? Don’t just ask whether your HVAC is running. Ask whether it’s running the way it should.

My HVAC Guy LLC serves residential and commercial customers throughout Fort Worth and surrounding Tarrant County communities.

A FROZEN HVAC SYSTEM IS A WARNING SIGN.

This commercial HVAC system was diagnosed after freezing became an issue.

When an air conditioning system develops ice, the important question isn’t just how to get the ice to melt—it’s why the system froze in the first place.

Possible causes can include restricted airflow, refrigerant-related issues, or other operating problems. The right diagnosis depends on what the equipment is telling the technician.

For a business, HVAC trouble can mean uncomfortable employees, unhappy customers, and disruptions to daily operations.

That’s why proper troubleshooting matters. Identify the cause before deciding on the fix.

What does HVAC maintenance actually look like?

It’s more than taking a quick look at the unit and saying, “Yep, it’s running.”

Proper HVAC maintenance can involve inspecting electrical components, checking system operation, taking measurements, evaluating refrigerant-related performance, checking controls and looking for signs of developing problems.

Because an HVAC system can still be running while something isn’t quite right.

For homeowners and businesses in Fort Worth, Haltom City, North Richland Hills, Arlington, Hurst, Keller, Bedford and surrounding Tarrant County communities, understanding what your HVAC technician is actually checking can help you make better decisions about your equipment.

Good maintenance should give you answers—not just a checkbox.

🔧 Real work. Real diagnostics. Real HVAC knowledge.

DFW homeowners & business owners: Fall is coming, even if Texas hasn’t gotten the memo yet.

Before we go from A/C season into heating season, this is a good time to take a few minutes to check your HVAC system.

Here’s a quick seasonal checklist:

✓ Check your air filter
A restricted filter can affect airflow and system performance.

✓ Look around your outdoor unit
Clear away leaves, grass and other debris that may have collected around the equipment.

✓ Pay attention to unusual sounds or odors
Small changes can be worth investigating before they become bigger problems.

✓ Check your vents and registers
Make sure furniture, boxes or other items aren’t blocking airflow.

✓ Don’t skip seasonal maintenance
A professional inspection can help identify issues before you need your system during the next extreme-weather stretch.

And remember: Texas weather doesn’t always follow the calendar.

Your HVAC system may still be working hard today, but preparing for the season ahead can help you avoid being caught off guard.

Business owners: When your HVAC company performs maintenance, do you know what questions to ask?

Commercial HVAC maintenance shouldn’t just be “we checked it and everything looks good.”

Here are 5 questions worth asking during your next maintenance visit…

- Did you find anything that needs attention?
- How are the filters and airflow looking?
- Did you find any electrical components showing wear?
- Is the system operating within the manufacturer’s specifications?
- Is there anything that isn’t an emergency today, but could become a problem later?

You don’t have to be an HVAC expert to understand the condition of your equipment. You just need to know what questions to ask.
