Sharing a project that was small in size but with added complexity due to attempting to duplicate original details. The goal was to expand the island and get matching countertops throughout the kitchen. Initial demolition required removal of the original countertops while maintaining the unique stucco backsplash. After the countertops were installed, 5 different colors of sanded silicone caulk were used to blend the backsplash details together along the edge. Through some trial and errors, the paint details of the existing island were mimicked within the expansion. In the end more seating was added, the backsplash was saved, and the owners were able to get the countertops they desired throughout the kitchen.

Two great projects in one house! In each case there were no before pictures. A blank wall was transformed into a 12’ wide by almost 11’ tall combination of four lockers, two pantries, two shoe drawers, six open storage cubbies, and it is all topped off by six more enclosed storage cabinets!

The goal of the island was to create an expansion of the existing kitchen. The family table was relocated in the home to allow 4’ of back to back base units to be set. The doors hide two full extension pull out shelves in each unit. From there a 6’ long frame was welded to span between the base cabinets and the island posts. The hidden treat is the built in wine fridge on the back side of the island. Cheers!

Sharing how an idea became a reality. The first picture contains a drawing I made based on the initial conversation with my client. She then made a storyboard to help dial things in. The results are found in the other picture. I’m always glad when the client is happy. They now have added storage needed right by the garage door to keep track of the little things needed to keep a busy family going.

When it comes to taking before photos I often fail to do it. This project is no exception because I didn’t think of it until we had already removed the flat ceiling. So exposed framing and old handrails are all I can show of the before, but it’s safe to say the improvements to the outdoor space speak for themselves!

Since I posted a dirty mess of the job last week I wanted to show the fun side of the job. Custom built in cabinet to help catch the things they wanted to hide with open shelves on top to show the things in life that help make a house a home.

We all have days that make you question what you were thinking when you took on a job. Today is one of those days. Some irresponsible construction methods by a previous owner is being torn out today. Not sure if the crosswind is good or bad but at least I’m staying cool while the debris from bird and rodent nests is flying all around me. Tomorrow will be a better day…

I guess I should post something positive later once I get this out an get a much deserved shower!

Giving a shout out to Damon Larkey and Greg Goff for their wonderful tile work while I was on vacation. Clean up and grout to finish once the second bathroom floor is set, but nice to see everything coming together. There is a lot of satisfaction and pride knowing these guys are continually developing their skills. The future is bright!

This project reminds me that even when things do not appear possible, you should never underestimate a determined person. The homeowner had just bought her house and was looking for renovations. She wanted the kitchen area opened up to the main living space. The goal was to remove the isolation and be able to enjoy visits from her family/ grandchildren. When she told me of her timeline, I attempted to gently let her know that it was probably unrealistic. We certainly could squeeze in the kitchen renovation work and general upgrades, but her desire for custom cabinets built and installed within two months would be improbable. I’m the end I told her if she could find someone to take on the cabinet work I would fit her in. Well, she went out and collaborated with 2430Creations to get things rolling. So my plan for a leisurely December went out the window because we had to uphold our end of the bargain. Check out the photos and see what was accomplished in a short amount of time through collaboration and determination!

The kitchen is the central hub of nearly every home. When it is set up in a way the homeowners like it just makes things flow throughout the whole house. The owner’s of this project approached me about working within the same footprint to expand the storage capacity to keep needed items in the kitchen. Luckily they had open space within the original footprint. We just needed to rethink how to better utilize what they had available. We removed soffits and gained storage upwards. We moved the refrigerator to another wall to gain more storage and countertop space. Finally we had a spot available to locate a couple pantry cabinets just to the side of back entrance to the kitchen. I would say that by working together we easily doubled the storage and countertop space for the kitchen. They now have the central hub they desired and the whole house flows.
