Buying a home? Don’t forget what you CAN’T see.

A standard home inspection can tell you a lot, but it can’t always tell you what’s happening inside the sewer line underground.

Roots, cracks, collapsed pipes, buildup, and other hidden problems can turn your new dream home into a pretty expensive surprise.

Before you sign on the dotted line, have the sewer line inspected by A1 Sewer Service.

A little information before you buy can save you a whole lot of money and headaches after you move in.

Howdy Fort Wayne Neighbors. We've all got that one thing we're really good at. And we've all got that thing we should probably just leave to the professionals.

This right here is what "doing it yourself" looks like when it's not your specialty. Lots of enthusiasm, not a lot of results.

Digging through the mess under your house is a lot like this dance. It might look easy from the couch, but trust us, you do not want to find out the hard way. Some jobs take the right training, the right tools, and somebody who actually knows what they're doing down there.

So stick to what you're great at and let A1 handle the dirty stuff. Give us a call and leave the digging to the pros.

Here's something a lot of people don't think about: the best way to keep water out of your basement is to keep it away from your house in the first place.

If the ground around your home slopes toward the foundation, or your gutters and downspouts are dumping rainwater right next to the house, that water has nowhere to go but down, and eventually it finds its way into your basement. But if you move that water away from the house, get it flowing out and away from the foundation, it never gets the chance to seep in.

Think of it as your first line of defense. Your sump pump is there for when water does get in, but keeping it away from the house to begin with means your pump has way less work to do. Grading the ground so it slopes away, extending your downspouts, keeping your gutters clear, little things that add up to a dry basement.

Water always takes the easy path. Make sure that path leads away from your home, not into it.

Not sure how the water's draining around your place? A1 can take a look and help you get ahead of it, before the next big storm does the checking for you.

There’s nothing wrong with knowing your limits.

Some things are great DIY projects. Some things are better left to people who do them every single day.

A temporary fix might get you through the weekend, but sometimes that “quick fix” turns one problem into three. And suddenly, you’re the guy in the ballet outfit wondering where it all went wrong.

Know what you know. Fix what you can.

And when it’s outside your wheelhouse, call the pros and get it done right the first time.

It’s usually cheaper than fixing the fix.

Before You Buy: Put the Sewer Line on the Checklist

Before you fall in love with the kitchen, remember the part of the house you cannot see.

Fort Wayne neighbors, don’t assume a standard home inspection includes the sewer line. Ask specifically for a pre-purchase sewer-line camera inspection before closing.

A camera inspection may reveal visible concerns such as root intrusion, cracks, separated joints, offsets, or standing water. If previous root intrusion or sewer clearing is mentioned, ask what was found, what work was completed, and whether any repairs were recommended.

The inspection cannot predict every future problem, but it can give you useful information while you still have time to ask questions and discuss the findings with your inspector and real-estate professionals.

The kitchen is easy to see.
Make sure the sewer line isn’t forgotten.

Buying a home can be an incredible experience. Whether it’s your first home, an upgrade for your growing family, or a smaller place now that you’re empty nesters, the same rule applies: get the sewer line checked before you sign anything.

Most people don’t realize that a sewer-line inspection is NOT included in a typical home inspection. Everything inside the home may look great while a costly problem is hiding underground.

A separate sewer inspection can uncover damage, blockages, tree-root intrusion, or other issues before they become your responsibility. If a problem is discovered before you buy, you still have options. You may be able to negotiate repairs, adjust your offer, or walk away. Once you sign and take ownership, you could be stuck with a massive repair bill you never expected.

We’re not trying to make buying a home more complicated, we simply want to help protect you and your family from an expensive surprise. No matter what stage of life you’re in, get the sewer line inspected before you sign.

Your sump pump works hard, so make sure it’s ready when your home needs it most.

It sits quietly in the basement, collecting groundwater and pumping it away from your foundation. This helps keep your basement dry and reduces water pressure around your foundation.

If the pump fails during heavy rain, the first warning could be water on your basement floor. Cleanup and repairs can quickly cost thousands of dollars.

Fort Wayne homeowners, take five minutes to check yours today:

• Look for standing water around the sump pit
• Listen for grinding, rattling, humming, or other unusual sounds
• Make sure the pump is not running constantly
• Check that the discharge line is clear
• Carefully pour water into the pit to make sure the pump turns on
• Consider adding a battery backup for power outages

If your pump sounds different, runs more often than usual, or you are not sure how old it is, it may be time to have it checked.

A1 Sewer Service installs and replaces sump pumps throughout Fort Wayne and the surrounding area.

Don’t wait until there’s water on the basement floor. Call A1 Sewer Service at 260-492-2464.
