Your home tells your story
Reading La Société du spectacle, by French philosopher Guy Debord, made me ask:
Are we creating homes to be truly lived in—or simply settings to be seen?
This foyer is my answer.
To me, the entrance is the first chapter of a home. I wanted mine to reveal who we are, what we value, and how we choose to live.
The wall is covered with pages from books found in secondhand bookstores, reflecting my love of reading. On the bamboo-and-rattan dresser, discovered by Ricardo, sits my grandfather’s Bible—a symbol of my roots, faith, and foundation.
My wedding flowers, my favorite orchid, vintage velvet chairs, a collected rug, and a llama painting gifted by my dear friends and clients Susana Alvarez Davis and Michael Davis complete the space. The painting also inspired the foyer’s entire color palette and one of the most meaningful projects I have designed.
Nothing here was purchased as part of a matching set. Each piece carries a memory, a relationship, or a purpose.
The guest book allows every person who enters our home to leave a message, ensuring that this story continues to be written over time.
Because a home should not be a fixed display or a copy of something seen online.
It should be a living autobiography.
Does the entrance of your home simply display beautiful things—or does it begin to tell your story?
At G&R, we create spaces that reveal your memories, personality, and way of living. Send us a message, and let’s turn your story into a home that could belong only to you.
