Standing Up for Licensed Contractors

A sold-out room, a packed panel, and an important conversation for the industry.

MACCA (Manasota Air Conditioning Contractors Association) and Southwest Florida PHCC (Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Contractors Association) brought contractors and industry professionals together on September 17 for an engaging discussion focused on unlicensed contractor activity and what licensed contractors can do to help address it.

Held at Courtyard Sarasota University Town Center, the sold-out event gave attendees the opportunity to hear directly from the regulatory, law enforcement, and legal professionals involved in investigating and addressing unlicensed work.

We extend a sincere thank-you to our panel, Detective Geraldine Brown of the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office; Sergeant Jason Farrier and Detective Ryan Emkey of the Manatee County Sheriff’s Department; Lieutenant Brian Gregory of the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office; Detective Corporal Joseph Rogers of the Palmetto Police Department; Kevin Henson and Nick Lata of the Office of the State Attorney, 12th Judicial Circuit; Lieutenant Matthew Brown of the North Port Police Department; Andrew Van Sickle of the Office of the State Attorney; and Matthew Dunklin, Florida DBPR Field Manager, Central FL/Division of Regulation, for joining us and sharing their knowledge and experience with our members.

Their participation gave contractors a valuable opportunity to hear directly from the agencies involved and gain a clearer understanding of how unlicensed activity is identified, investigated, and addressed. The panel covered what happens when a complaint is filed, what information agencies need, and how licensed contractors can help report potential violations.

Several important topics were raised throughout the conversation, and we’ll be addressing these issues in more depth in upcoming articles. Please stay tuned for additional information and resources for contractors.

🛠️ National Construction Appreciation Week

Construction is about more than what gets built. It’s about the people and partnerships that make it possible.

At iMold, we often meet our customers after something has gone wrong — water damage, mold, fire, or another unexpected property loss. Our job may start with cleaning up the damage, but increasingly, it doesn’t end there.

Our Rebuild Team helps take that property through the next chapter — putting homes and businesses back together and helping our customers get back to normal.

None of that happens without great people.

This week, we’re especially grateful for the contractors, subcontractors, plumbers, HVAC professionals, electricians, roofers, flooring installers, painters, suppliers, designers, and other skilled trades we have the opportunity to work alongside throughout Southwest Florida.

Every successful project takes communication, craftsmanship, problem-solving, and a lot of collaboration behind the scenes.

💧 A Small Shower Leak Can Become a Much Bigger Problem

Water doesn’t always stay where the leak starts.

A failed shower seal, cracked grout, plumbing leak, or waterproofing issue can allow moisture to move behind the shower, through a shared wall, underneath flooring, and even into adjoining cabinets or closets—sometimes without obvious signs at first.

By the time discoloration or mold becomes visible, the affected area can be larger than what you see on the surface.

A few warning signs worth paying attention to include musty odors near the bathroom, swollen baseboards or cabinetry, recurring staining, loose caulk or grout, soft drywall, or unexplained moisture in an adjoining room.

At iMold, our approach is simple:

Find the source. Determine how far the moisture traveled. Properly dry the structure. Address affected materials.

That’s why moisture detection and mapping are such an important part of evaluating water and mold damage. We want to understand the whole problem, not just what’s visible.

Today, Team iMold joins our country in remembering the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honoring the incredible courage shown in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

We remember the first responders who ran toward danger, the everyday people who helped one another, the families who lost loved ones, and the countless lives forever changed that day.

As a company built around helping people during difficult moments, we have tremendous respect for those whose calling is to serve others—especially our firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMTs, military members, and first responders here in Southwest Florida and across our country.
