A remodel is only as good as the parts you can't see once it's finished.

This clip shows some of that hidden work: floor protection, cabinet prep, waterproofing, and precise tile setting. It's the part of the process we think homeowners deserve to see.

Follow along if you'd like more of these behind-the-scenes looks.

We hear it more often than you'd think: a homeowner was told by a previous contractor that a permit "wasn't necessary." Permits exist to protect you — they confirm the work meets safety and building code standards.

Worth keeping in mind before you hire anyone for your next project.

The beauty of timeless design.

Custom built-ins, a soft coastal palette, and styling details that make a space feel collected, not staged — down to how each shelf was arranged. It's proof that the best rooms take patience and a good eye for detail.

What's one detail in your own home you're proudest of? Save this post for inspiration, and share it with someone planning a renovation.

If you know your home needs to change, but you don't know where to start, you're not alone.

Most renovations don't begin with a floor plan — they begin with a conversation about what isn't working anymore. That's exactly where we like to start, before any decisions or costs are on the table.

If you're in that stage right now, feel free to reach out. We're happy to just talk through it with you.

A lot of new homeowners don't realize this until they're ready to renovate: contractors are usually booked 4 to 6 months out — some a full year.

It's not just scheduling. Cabinets can take 6–10 weeks to arrive. Permits need approval. Your electrician, plumber, and countertop fabricator all need open slots too. Plan on 4–6 months of prep before the build even starts, then another 6–12 weeks for construction.

So if a contractor can't start next week, that's not a red flag — that's normal.

When are you hoping to start your renovation? Drop it in the comments.

A kitchen doesn't have to chase trends to feel special. This one leans into an arched glass cabinet, brass hardware throughout, and a warm white palette that'll still feel right at home in ten years — the result of planning every detail before construction ever started.

"How long will this take?" is one of the first questions we get from homeowners — and the honest answer is longer than most people expect, once you count design, permitting, and material lead times alongside construction.

Here's a realistic breakdown of what the full process actually looks like, from first conversation to finished kitchen.

If you’re comparing builders for an upcoming renovation, here’s one question worth asking every contractor:

"Will I see the complete design and a real number before construction begins?"

When construction starts before every material, layout, and design decision is finalized, changes can quickly affect the budget.

At Nordic Builders, we complete the design first, then provide a detailed proposal before construction begins.

Ask every builder you’re considering this question—and pay attention to how they answer.

Save this before your next contractor meeting.

This kitchen renovation didn't settle for one cabinet color — white on one wall, a rich blue on the other, tied together with matching marble and brass details throughout. It's a good example of how a design-first approach lets you take a few more risks and still land on something that feels intentional, not mismatched.
