🐜❄️ **FREEDOM FACT FRIDAY!** ❄️🐜

**Did you know insects have their very own version of ANTIFREEZE?!** 🤯

While we're bundling up in cozy sweaters, sipping hot cocoa, and cranking up the heat, some insects have a pretty incredible trick up their tiny sleeves to survive winter! 🥶

🐜 **Here's the COOL science behind it!**

Many insects, including certain species of ants, produce a natural substance called **glycerol**, which acts like antifreeze in their bodies!

This amazing chemical helps protect their cells from freezing damage when temperatures drop. 🌡️

Pretty impressive for a creature that doesn't even own a winter coat! 😂🧥

🐜 **BUT HERE'S THE CATCH…**

Just because it's cold outside doesn't mean pests have disappeared!

Many insects slow down, seek shelter, or find protected places to ride out the winter. And guess what? Your warm, cozy home can look pretty inviting! 🏡

💡 **FREEDOM FACT:** Pest prevention isn't just a summertime thing. Keeping your home protected year-round helps prevent unwanted visitors in every season!

At **Freedom Pest Services**, we've got your back whether it's 90 degrees or 30 degrees outside! 💪

🐛 **SILVERFISH: Tiny Bugs, BIG Nuisance!** 😳

Ever spotted a tiny, silvery bug darting across your bathroom floor or disappearing into a dark corner? 👀

Meet the **SILVERFISH!** And no, despite their name, they aren't fish, and they definitely aren't something you want swimming around your home! 😂

These sneaky little pests love moisture, darkness, and snacking on everything from paper and cardboard to wallpaper glue and starchy materials. 📚📦

The good news? You can make your home a lot less inviting to them!

🏡 **5 TIPS TO KEEP SILVERFISH AWAY:**

💧 **Ditch the Moisture!** Fix leaky pipes, improve ventilation, and use a dehumidifier in damp areas.

🚪 **Seal Their Hiding Spots!** Close gaps around baseboards, pipes, and cracks where silverfish love to hide.

📦 **Cut the Clutter!** Cardboard boxes, old magazines, and piles of paper can become a silverfish paradise.

🥣 **Store It Smart!** Keep dry foods in airtight containers and important papers in sealed storage bins.

🧹 **Keep It Clean!** Vacuum regularly, especially along baseboards, in closets, and behind furniture.

🤔 **DID YOU KNOW?** Silverfish can live for several years under favorable conditions, and they can damage books, wallpaper, and even certain fabrics!

While silverfish don't bite people or spread diseases, they can certainly become unwanted houseguests!

🐛 **Seeing silverfish around your home? Don't let these little freeloaders get too comfortable!**

At **Freedom Pest Services**, we know how to identify pest problems and help you protect your home.

🐭 **MOUSE P**P? RAT P**P? NOPE… FROG P**P!** 🐸💩

Yep, you read that right! 😂

We get calls from homeowners who discover mysterious droppings around their homes and immediately think they've got a rodent problem. But sometimes, the culprit isn't a mouse or rat at all… **it's a TREE FROG!** 🐸

Our very own Ben is here to play detective and show you what tree frog droppings look like and why they're so commonly mistaken for rodent droppings! 🔎

💡 **FUN FROG FACTS:**

🐸 Tree frogs love hanging out near porch lights, windows, and doorways because those areas attract insects — their favorite buffet!

💩 For such little creatures, they can leave behind some surprisingly BIG droppings!

🏡 Finding droppings around your porch or entryway doesn't automatically mean you have rodents.

🔍 While frog droppings and rodent droppings can look similar, their appearance, location, and other clues can help us identify the source.

**The moral of the story? Not every p**p is a pest problem!** 😂

At Freedom Pest Services, we believe in identifying the problem BEFORE recommending a treatment. Sometimes that means solving a pest mystery… and sometimes it means giving an innocent frog a clean bill of health! 🐸💚

🏡🐜 Your house has a pest door… the question is, can you find it before THEY do?

Pests don’t need a wide-open door to make themselves at home. Tiny gaps around doors, windows, plumbing, utility lines, crawlspace vents, foundations and rooflines can be all the invitation they need.

🍂 Fall is an especially important time to check your home. As temperatures begin to drop, many pests start looking for protected places to overwinter—and your warm, cozy house looks pretty good!

Take a few minutes to walk around the exterior of your home and look for cracks, gaps, damaged screens, worn weather stripping or other potential entry points.

🔎 Pro Tip: Pest control isn’t just about treating bugs after they show up. Exclusion and prevention are a huge part of keeping pests out in the first place.
Find the gap before they do! 🐜🕷️🐭

Active termite infestation in a slab constructed brick house. The common misconception of homeowners that live on a slab is that their house is termite proof, thinking that termites can’t get through concrete. These are pictures of a slab constructed house where the termites have entered through utility penetrations (plumbing) and the expansion joint in the garage. These termites were found between the countertop backsplash and the wall. 😳 they came up through the water line under the slab. 😱

You can have a preventative treatment or a reactive treatment. When you have a reactive treatment the termite activity and potential damage must be disclosed on the sellers disclosure when you go to sell the house.

🐜 Termite TREATMENT vs. termite PREVENTION… what’s the difference?

Here’s the simple answer: the treatment itself can be the same—the timing is what changes.
🏠 If we treat a home before termites are present, we’re being preventative.
🚨 If termites are already active, that same type of treatment becomes reactive.
With a traditional liquid soil treatment, we’re not interested in simply spot-treating the one area where termites were found. We create a 360° treated zone in the soil around the structure, designed to protect the home from subterranean termite entry.
And what about bait stations? Those work differently, they target the colonies in the yard not necessarily what is already in your home. Rather than creating a continuous treated zone around the structure, baiting systems rely on termites finding and feeding on the bait so the active ingredient can affect the colony.

👉 Different methods. Different approaches. Same goal: protecting your home from termites.
And remember—just because you don’t see termites doesn’t mean they aren’t there. 👀

🦟🌕 It’s Freedom Fact Friday!

Did you know a full moon can increase mosquito activity by as much as 500%? 🤯

Mosquitoes use visual cues to help locate their next meal, and the extra light from a full moon can make that easier. Full moons can also contribute to higher tides, creating more areas of wet, moist soil and standing water—the perfect breeding conditions for mosquitoes.

And don’t pack away the bug spray just because fall is here! 🍂 Mosquitoes can remain active until we experience our first or second hard frost, so mosquito season isn’t necessarily over when the temperatures start to cool.

Around here, if it’s still warm enough for mosquitoes, they’re still looking for you! 🦟😬

🚨 If you see termite swarmers, PAY ATTENTION.

A couple of weeks ago, termite swarmers were found at this property—and today we got a much clearer picture of what was happening.
We lifted a mat outside and found active termites tunneling right out into the yard. 😳 And they’re not just outside—they’ve already made their way into the structure and are actively tunneling underneath the wood.

🐜 Swarmers aren’t something to ignore. They can be an important warning sign that a mature termite colony is nearby and further investigation is needed.
This is exactly why we don’t just treat what we can see. We follow the evidence to find out where they’re coming from and where they’re going.
Because with termites, what’s happening underneath is usually the bigger story. 👀

🕷️🍂 Fall is here… but that doesn’t mean spider activity is gone!

As temperatures start to change, black widow spiders can be found tucked away in quiet, protected areas around homes and businesses—places that often go undisturbed for long periods of time.
Think garages, crawlspaces, sheds, woodpiles, underneath outdoor furniture and decks, and around stored boxes or equipment. 👀
One of the biggest things to remember? Be careful when reaching into or moving items that have been sitting untouched. Gloves are always a good idea when cleaning out garages, sheds, crawlspaces or outdoor storage areas.
🕸️ Pest Pro Tip: Black widows typically aren't looking for trouble—they prefer secluded areas and generally bite when disturbed or threatened. Knowing where they like to hide can help you avoid an unwanted encounter.
Fall is a great time to inspect those forgotten corners around your property!
📞 See something you’re not sure about? That’s what we’re here for.

🕷️ It’s Freedom Fact Friday! 🕷️

They may be BIG, fast, and a little intimidating 😳, but wolf spiders are generally not aggressive toward people and can actually be helpful predators around your home.

Wolf spiders are active hunters that feed on a variety of unwanted pests, including cockroaches, crickets, beetles, silverfish, and even other spiders.

Unlike many spiders, wolf spiders don’t build webs to catch their dinner—they hunt their prey down, which is where they get their name! 🐺🕷️

So the next time you spot one, you may want to think twice before reaching for your shoe. He might just be helping with pest control! 😉
