🌳 FAQ Monday!
"How do you excavate around tree roots without killing my trees?"
Great question — and one we get a lot!

Tree roots can extend 2–3x the width of the canopy, so they're basically everywhere. We use a combination of hand digging, root pruning with clean cuts, and air spading near sensitive areas to keep as many roots intact as possible.

Your landscaping shouldn't have to suffer just because you need a trench. We treat your yard like it's ours.

🌱 Fun Fact Friday!
Trees can regrow from roots as small as your pinky finger.

Some tree species can regrow from a root segment as small as your pinky finger. That's why we take root damage seriously on every job — even small cuts can affect the long-term health of a tree.

We're excavators, not arborists — but we absolutely respect the work of the guys who are. 🌲

💧 FAQ Monday!
"What do you do when you hit groundwater while digging?"

Ah yes. Groundwater. Our sneaky, uninvited job-site guest.

When we hit groundwater, we don't panic — we plan. Depending on the depth and flow, we use dewatering pumps, drainage systems, or adjust our approach entirely. Colorado's Front Range has some areas with surprisingly high water tables — we've learned to expect the unexpected.

Every job is a little different. That's what keeps it interesting! 😄

🤯 Fun Fact Friday!
There are over 3.5 million miles of underground pipelines in the U.S. alone.

The U.S. has over 3.5 MILLION miles of underground pipelines — enough to circle the Earth 140 times. And we dig around every single one very, very carefully. 😅

That's why every job starts with a 811 call and a healthy respect for what's beneath your feet.

❓ FAQ Monday!
"Do you really have to call 811 before you dig?"
Short answer: YES. Long answer: OH YES.

811 is the free "Call Before You Dig" service that marks underground utilities — gas, electric, water, sewer, fiber — before we break ground. We always call. Always. Because hitting a gas line is a lot less fun than it sounds. 💥

Fun Fact Friday — “Culverts don’t just move water — they protect access.”

A properly sized culvert keeps your driveway or road passable during storms.
Too small, and it clogs.
Too big, and it’s overkill.
We size culverts based on flow, slope, and soil — and we’re licensed, insured, and offer free estimates.

Fun Fact Friday — “Gravel size does matter.”

Bigger rock = stronger base.
Smaller rock = smoother finish.
A long‑lasting driveway uses both — layered and compacted correctly. Also materials like recycled concrete or recycled asphalt are good choices for drive and parking areas.
We can haul all different types of materials for your projects.
Aspyn Grading & Excavating, Inc. builds driveways that hold up year after year.
Free estimates available.

FAQ Monday — “What’s the difference between a ditch and a swale?”

Ditches and swales both move water, but they’re designed differently.
A ditch is deeper and steeper, built to carry larger flows.
A swale is wider and gentler, perfect for directing water without erosion.
At Aspyn Grading & Excavating, Inc., we design the right solution for your property — and we’re fully licensed, insured, and ready to help.
Free estimates available — call or message us anytime.
