The Black Hawk Artists is a group of 12 women who have met once a month for 49 years to critique each other's work and to plan their annual show. Each year the Black Hawk Artists challenge each other to illustrate a particular theme for their show as well as producing at least three new works for exhibit. The annual show at the Hoard Historical Museum in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, opens the first

Sunday in November and lasts two to three weeks. Karen Crosby is developing "Ebru" marbling and sophisticated paper-cutting techniques. Always interested in collage (layered works), Karen Gomez is applying her work to new surfaces. Viewers can expect colored pencil and bookwork from Priscilla Heussner; classical oil painting from Julia Ince; silverpoint drawings of native plants from Kim Karow, Collage, book and other paper works from Sally Koehler; watercolors and ceramics from Linda Tump; felted scarves and wall hangings from Mary Wallace. Jan Gilkey offers landscape and animal studies in oil. Typically unpredictable, Jan Holewinski might have tea pots and pastel paintings. Judy Henning produces bold abstractions in acrylic and Angie Hamele Szabo produces experimental pieces in a variety of media often involving feminine subjects.
