Before I pour anything, I know what’s under it.

Those flags mark where we pulled soil samples. The lab tells me how the clay moves when it gets wet and dries out… and in North Texas, it moves a lot.

That report decides the foundation. Pier depth, beam spacing, how much steel goes in. Get it wrong and you’re looking at cracks in year three that nobody can fix without lifting the house.

Most people never see this step. It’s the one that decides whether everything above it holds.
